They wouldn't accept what I think they should take, because they're crazy Muslim cultists so what I think is irrelevant. If they took my advice they wouldn't have these problems.

What my post says is their strongest negotiating timing is now, not in 2 1/2 years. They're going to "we're not weak" themselves into being very, very weak the longer they wait. They are comparatively strong today compared to 2029.

Iran's GDP is projected to drop by more than the Great Recession in half the time. They have 70% inflation. How long do you think their people are going to accept the idea that the U.S. and Israel are the source of their problems when they already have been upset with the previous government for a substantial proportion of their lives? "We're really sticking it to them, they can't afford food delivery." Is a tough sell to people that can't afford food.

Still did not answer the question

What should they be asking for and what should they be willing to accept ?
Remember Russia borders Ukraine and couldn't successfully win that war. Both the US and Russia made the mistake of thinking we could win in Afghanistan.

Projections are based on assumptions about what is going to happen to in the next 90 days
The range of possibilities about what might happen to Iran in the next 90 days range include

Being obliterated by nuclear weapons
Ongoing escalation including power and water being deprived
Getting 300 Billion in cash and ongoing control of the SoH

Given the possible range of what is going to happen in the next 60 days the Projections about the future are garbage
Any projections at this point is a talking point (propaganda) based on assumption of near future activities that are trying to be sold to a portion of the populace

The IRGC does not want prosperity for Iran. They know if that happens then they lose their power over the people as their terror tactics only take away their prosperity. So as long as they remain in control no negotiations will ever be successfull.

If it wasn't for the IRGC it would be a simple matter - they would agree to no nukes ever, not to sponsor terrorism in any country, and leave the commercial traffic in the strait alone. In exchange we leave them alone and drop all sanctions. Everybody grows fat and happy...except for the IRGC. That was supposed to be the original plan and why Israel targeted the IRGC leadership. It just wasn't quite enough to make it happen.

Iran asked for $400 billion. U.S. and gulf states countered with $300 billion. Unless you think they've suddenly reduced their demands then minimally the number is $300 billion, paid for the expediency of opening the strait.

Iran has now countered with no negotiations for 2 1/2 years. In 3 years time substantial alternatives can be created.

I'm just saying that $300B offer was in the original MOU and hasn't been mentioned in weeks. I think it died on the vine and is no longer relevant.

Does anyone know if the blockade has been lifted? I saw a post that Iran had driven all US ships out of the Persian Gulf. I checked Maritime map and the waters and saw alot of Iranian flagged fishing vessels.

No, the blockade is still underway. The ship we fired on today was in the Gulf of Oman outside of the Persian though. Maybe our ships are in the Oman blockading the Persian from outside of it. Don't know but the blockade is still in effect.

I can't believe that either it was a post on x from some Iranian government figure. But I know for a fact Iranian fishing boats were everywhere in the gulf yesterday and last night. Not sure how they know vetted to be fishing boats and not laying mines.

They are for sure lying about blockade because Iranian flagged vessels are everywhere in the gulf so maybe we aren't in Persian gulf anymore maybe the blockade it's at the entry way into the gulf. But if that's the case that means they have control over the strait.

Well, if you are going to run a blockade then you do it at the smallest choke point which would be outside the Persian on the Gulf of Oman side. Would give you more maneuverability while cutting off access in/out.

Trump's credibility has no bearing on the fact that Iran has been and will continue to be an existential threat as long as the current regime is in power. I could catalog their list of terror plots by both their own operatives and their proxies over the past 40 years, but that would be both unnecessary and pedantic since the record is clear. The best domestic resource, IMHO, is the Combating Terrorism Center at West Point. I use this abstract quote from one of their research projects to identify the regime's goals:
" Over the past 40-plus years, the Islamic Republic of Iran has targeted dissidents, Western opponents, Israelis, and Jews in assassination plots, abduction plots, and surveillance operations that facilitate both. Iran has carried out such external operations around the world, in countries with both strong and weak law enforcement agencies, border crossings, and intelligence services. It has done so consistently over the years, including at times and in places where carrying out such operations could undermine key Iranian diplomatic efforts, such as negotiations over the country's nuclear program…"
https://ctc.westpoint.edu/trends-in-iranian-external-assassination-surveillance-and-abduction-plots/

IOW, this is a forever existential war, whatever the underlying entrenched grievances surrounding the US and British roles in overthrowing Iranian PM Mohamed Mossadegh in 1953. We fail to treat Iran as an existential threat at our peril.

It would make absolutely no sense for them to try to assassinate President Trump, especially now. One could argue they are in a better position than prior to the war and if they were to kill the President, we would wipe their country off the face of the map.

Exactly they are in way better position every day the longer this last the better it gets for Iran. These are not dumb people living in a cave in Afghanistan they fell into a great position they don't want to mess it up. This has been the best thing that could have happened to Iran they are now a global power will shortly be 300 billion richer and no sanctions and they get to keep weapon programs. They are the Victor and at this point are taking a victory lap.

Global power is a stretch. Do you consider NK a global power because they already have nukes. At best, Iran will be the top mideast power. At worst, they will be a pariah state just like NK. Or, why not both. Also, if supply chains get diverted their one hold on a regional resource (Hormuz) will be lessened.

And, I don't think the $300B is on the table anymore, but I could be wrong on that.

You are assuming that they are in a static situation, and they aren't. It's not like they are sitting on infinite reserves and can just do this forever. Iran is degrading their own internal situation more the longer this goes. It's a gamble on their part, but my guess is the administration is ok with the status quo because 1 month of the current state probably sets Iran back 6 months in recovery even if no regime change happens, which would be why Trump doesn't seem to be in a big hurry to wrap things up decisively. There's no way to tell if the Iranian gamble will pay off by allowing the IRGC to keep existing or not in the future, but to say Iran is winning anything at this point is pretty laughable.

The Trump Admin has absolutely no intention of giving up the $300 billion. It will never happen.

Nor does Iran have any intention of ever giving in to Trump's demands.

He and Israel killed their Pope on the 1st day of the war. There were 10 to 14 million people on the streets in Iran and Iraq mourning his death. It's only been six months since all this kicked off, it will be political suicide for any Iranian politician to give in anytime in the near future (ie. 5 to 10 years).

This will not end in any sort of agreed upon "settlement". If Trump were smart, he'd claim victory and walk away today but it appears he's willing to push this right up to and beyond the point of no return to get the "win".

Both the US and Iran are in for financial chaos. We (all of us on F16) are going to take a bite of this giant **** sandwich on the US side. It's up to you to determine how big of a bite you have to take......

Agreed.
