Updated map from DHS website as of this morning. The entire project in the park will be a 24 foot wide road, with clearings up to 160 feet wide around it. Maybe if there was any transparency from the DHS or CBP regarding there actual plans, people would have a better idea of what is going on.

I'm all for the use of drone tech, cameras spread out (with no lights because why? we have night vision and heat mapping), satellite imagery, and other "non-invasive" border protection measures, but clearing this region for a huge road when less than 1% of all border crossings occur in the region (of which the park is only a small portion of) is asinine. The only good thing is now that there is largely bipartisan opposition at the state level, Trump's ego may make him back down from the proposed project and use the tech we have instead of needing a physical barrier of any sort in the park itself.

Where are you getting your information on width, clearing width etc? Seems like pure speculation. Someone else claimed they are going to dynamite a mountain to build a road but again that's pure speculation. Same with the technology that people are sure will be nothing more than stadium lights, again, fear porn.

The funny part is that there are already roads all over the park including a paved one that goes through the mountains to get to Santa Elena Canyon. And of course there is the road from Lajitas to Ojinga which is considered one of the most scenic drives in Texas, yet somehow a road along the river in the park is the most destructive thing ever that's going to ruin the entire Big Bend region. In 6 months this will blow over and a year or two from now people won't even know anything changed.

Here is the original information from CBP

https://www.cbp.gov/sites/default/files/2026-02/big_bend_border_barrier_system_request_for_comment.pdf

Patrol and Maintenance Road: A Functional Class-1 (FC-1) or FC-2 road will be constructed to accommodate a 12-footwide maintenance road and up to a 24-footwide patrol road.

Are any or you doing any homework on the plans? There is no plan for a wall in the park, there are a few very short distances with vehicle barriers which are essentially just a 4 foot fence without wire. The area starting a little east of BBNP to Lake Amistad is also a vehicle barrier. This whole thing is so overblown because of a lack of understanding of the plans.

not quite a 4 foot fence with some wire

I'd verify this video is real before getting worked up. A lone dozer out there just seems weird.

Weird isn't the word that I'd use to describe what's going on. Proceed however you wish, but I'm going to believe what's being reported by multiple outlets is real.

Bulldozing the mouth of Santa Elena Canyon is being reported by multiple outlets?

You think this is an image from the park? They just started 3 days ago clearing land, they haven't put any barriers up yet, but the image has been used by multiple news outlets over the past year describing vehicle barriers and it comes directly from U.S. Customs and Border Protection.

Here's some more from across the border in different styles for you.

Nope. Just providing information. That's what we deserve and should expect from our elected officials, especially when it comes to a National Park that is for the citizens to experience nature.

Feel however you want dude. Have a good night!

The fact is also that there are only two very short sections in the park that a vehicle barrier is planned.

I served in the Army. I understand what a barrier looks like.

I personally have not been to the border in Big Bend National Park since December 2024. During that trip, I did see the Border Patrol picking up illegals in BBNP (I know many on this thread think it never happens).

I myself got stopped by the Border Patrol in May 2025 northwest of Candelaria.

So my question about the location of the fence stands.

EDIT: Forgot to add that I hung out with Rex Brown one night at The Rainbow about 15 years ago. Cool guy.

At 0:13 you can see the cliffs that do not stop vehicles, but thankfully the expensive Trump mini fence will do the job.

Any illegal is one too many.

I wish Bush 43 would have created a jobs program by properly securing our southern border instead of creating a jobs program by invading Iraq.

You haven't read the map have you? There is no proposed barrier going through the canyon.

Also, fun fact, I've driven that road where this girl is filming. I've also driven the unpaved road down to the Rio Grande and have the mesquite thorn scratches to prove it.

Now if you wanted to have a good argument, it would be about the fact that they appear to be building some sort of straight line road, fence, barricade of some sort in an area that is undoubtedly flood plain. That seems dumb.

I do hope this girl's social media page does well. She looks like she's found a lane and appears to be committed to the bit.

If it wasn't 700 miles away, I'd drive out there and take a look myself. Maybe I'll check it out in late December.

More overblown garbage meant to depress Republican vote turnout and rage people against Trump. Facts don't matter of course. Might as well show more BP "whipping" illegals.

Good point on never seeing it. I did some project work with one border wall contractor and helped a few sections be built. I was genuinely shocked by the amount of people that have never seen the wall outside of segments in major cities.

Are you serious bro? It's an orange line on a map. Do you really think they are going to go right through a historic building?

It also shows the vehicle barrier going right through one of the greens at blackjack crossing and only straight lines. Take off your tin foil hat.

The fear peddling is at the level where I almost feel compelled to go check it out first hand. They've even got my brother buying into it and he's the only reason I went to Big Bend in the first place (Dec. 2023 & 2024).

Having that week off from work between Christmas and New Years make it convenient. As well as owning a Jeep and a tent. I might check into some campsite reservations.
