Lebanon and Israel have been working together against Hezbollah. Not sure why Iran thinks that has anything to do with a ceasefire that neither side has signed.

Glide bombs?

Standoff weapons. Think of a reverse dive bomb. A really fast jet lobs a bomb into the air that glides to its target with precision over pretty impressive distances.

Iran and Houthis launching missiles at Israel now.

Edit: actually only houthis at the moment.

Iran Muddle

It's unclear who Trump is negotiating with in Iran, but Iran in the last week has now done everything it can do to thumb its nose at the US by launching missiles and drones against Israel, Kuwait, and Bahrain in addition to firing on US and other ships.

As to Lebanon the deal was that Israel would not hit terrorists in Beirut if Hezbollah would stop firing rockets at Israel. Hezbullah rejected the ceasefire and so the dominoes started here with Hezbollah not willing to stop firing on Israel.

So the story is that Hezbollah refuses to yield to Israel and the Lebanese government- to stop firing at Israel and they, not Israel should be getting the heat for continuing the barrage.

And what exactly did Kuwait and Bahrain do to suddenly be targeted by Iran? What aggressive action did they take? None.

Iran appears to be in control of the proxies, the Strait and has the President trying to keep a ceasefire in place that works only to restrain retaliation against a regime that so far has not given any real indication it is willing to do anything but stall for time.

I wonder if Trump's team thinks there's a legitimate War Powers Act issue at play here

The one that hasn't been passed in the senate?

Israel is defending Israel thus far. What war powers does Trump need for that?

Israel hit Iran several times overnight. Hit again this morning. Full cooperation from CENTCON. US helped shoot some missiles down.

Israel has every right to defend its territory at all costs.

IDF has reported sites were struck from missiles launched outside of Iran, but clearly they are planning more direct action this week:

I've seen reports of students in Iran protesting/burning flags again, but their ridiculous 'judiciary' also reported opening 'inquiries' into 3100 detainees for supporting the 'enemy' so I dunno. Need to see more Artesh defections to believe any real uprising has a chance vs. regime, imho.

Going back to intensive military action risks American lives, and as well those of the allies in the ME who are subject to retaliatory strikes, to say nothing of critical infrastructure on both sides.

It's easy for us to say 'do it' from afar but the question should always be what are the strategic/military ramifications and standards of 'success' for doing so? If it's not swift regime change, I can appreciate waiting them out while their economy spirals, even though that's unpopular in many quarters. IRGC leadership is obviously backed into a corner, which is why they are lashing out as much as they think they can get away with. I credit Trump's patience (if not for his rhetoric) as such, since it's clear so many would just prefer the highlights of explosions etc for the sake/spectacle of it. (even though I enjoy those headlines too).

Meanwhile; Basij checkpoints matter.

Ceasefire has lost all meaning.

It's like me talking about going on a diet. Even if I start one, we all know it won't last long enough to matter.

Trump has managed to get both the anti-war and pro-action sides mad at him. Here is to hoping what is really going on is better than the story being sold.

Here's the problem. Every time it is reported that Israel struck Lebanon every single news source is giving Iran an assist. "Iran retaliates because Israel attacked Lebanon!". Like Iran has Lebanon's back.

That couldn't be further from the truth. Iran could give a flying f*** about Lebanon. The truth is Israel struck Hezbollah, Iran's terrorist proxy who are in Lebanon and a thorn in the side of the Lebanese people and government. Iran is striking Israel because they are attacking their investment in a terrorist group.

Words matter.
nortex97
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Correct. The problem in Lebanon has been that Hezbollah functionally has out-gunned the government, starting with a few neighborhoods in Beirut years ago and up until recently taking over essentially much of the city/southern end of the country. They are detested by Lebanese and fully armed/equipped by Iran; there were almost no shia in Beirut 40 years ago.

More lies about military strikes by Israeli's (coming from Hamas/PIJ):

Not until you kill about 10,000 more of the terrorists. And even then, maybe not.

I'm getting pissed at Trump. Never thought that would happen.

Sorry, I didn't explain myself well...I am with you that I don't necessarily believe we should get back to bombing, but when he continues to say that the deal is "close" and yet no progress seems to be made, he/the US needs to reassess how we are going about things and what we are trying to accomplish as what we are doing doesn't seem to be working.

No worries, I've just read a lot of comments on this thread this am (after frankly not reading it much the past few weeks) with the renewed strikes from IDF and seen such sentiment from a bunch of posters I respect, probably should have made that clear.

I also again agree Trump's rhetoric is really not helpful, and is at a minimum imprecise/vague/inartful 90 percent of the time when publicly discussing the outcome/next steps/'deal' here. Frankly, public statements as to the tactical/strategic situation and negotiations would be better handled by the Pentagon and negotiators themselves (or Vance/Rubio), vs '47 but we all know staying quiet on a topic isn't Trump's MO.

I am in this same boat. While I would rather see some definitive action, I can see the strategic value of a drawn-out siege. I know Trump is Trump and is driven to constantly comment on things, but he's becoming Baghdad Bob with his hands up saying peace deal is close, everyone wants a ceasefire, while the bombs and missiles are flying in the background.

In the end, the IRGC are going to have to get crushed militarily I believe. No amount of pressure seems will work on these barbarians. They will steal resources from their own people and let them starve before giving up. The sooner we come to terms with that, the sooner we can end this. Islamists are a scourge on the world and the entire globe is hoping we finish the job even if they won't say so in public.

It does seem that Trump has an actual strategic policy working which is long term blockade leading to economic collapse of the Islamic Republic. And hopefully arming the resistance within Iran.

but he says whatever the @#$#@ is on his mind that second of that day- without even thinking how it completely contradicts what he said before.

and even worse how it makes his previous arguments look like they were fabrications.

he has no ability to manage a cohesive strategic communications campaign.
Deerdude

Unless that is his strategy. There's nothing wrong with misdirection to the enemy. He owes ZERO to our media.
