There is an absolute IRGC bloodbath happening in the Iranian region of Sistan & Balochestan. Assassinations everywhere and almost daily.

I haven't spoken much about this particular battlefield.

As an Iranian nationalist I will never approve of separatism, nor will I blindly praise the JMM militant group. I don't know this group, and as of writing this I don't trust them either. They claim to fight for all of Iran after merging several militant groups together, but at least one faction among them are historically Baloch separatists. They are also very conservative sunni muslims.

Therefore, I won't boost their videos or statements for the time being. Until I know where the Shah and his team stand regarding this group and where they stand regarding him, I won't give them my attention.

However, I can speak about what the last few weeks of fighting could mean for Iran:

Regardless of what I think of JMM, their targets have Iranian blood on their hands and undoubtedly deserve it.

IRGC thugs, basijis, regime linked clerics and foreign proxy terrorists are all being killed at a growing rate. Police stations, bases and checkpoints are raided. Patrols come under attack as they drive through cities. There's been at least one case of fighting reaching the Kerman region. Today, a female basiji commander was assassinated in front of her house. Yesterday, dozens of Afghan proxy terrorists were wiped out. Last month, a regime linked sunni cleric was shot dead. Many of the assassinations are very high ranking.

I don't know what suddenly changed, but it's gotten very deadly and dangerous to be an islamic regime figure in S&B.

What does all of this mean?

1) The islamic regime is losing control.

2) Regime thugs used to feel safe and protected. Now they don't. Psychologically this will do serious damage, especially to lower ranking demoralised basijis who aren't receiving their blood money salaries anymore due to sanctions.

3) If this keeps up, the islamic regime will have to send large forces from other regions to go fight in S&B. I shouldn't have to explain that this will benefit the rest of Iran when the next uprising happens. Thousands of IRGC terrorists forced to fight in the South East means thousands fewer IRGC to oppress Iranians in other provinces. It means evening out the playing field.

Again, this is an analysis, not an endorsement of JMM. They still need to clarify their stance on Iran's territorial integrity, their stance on the Shah, and their stance on separatism and islamism. We also need to know what their actual goal is once the islamic regime is overthrown.

Until then, as far as I'm concerned, the IRGC is getting killed in big numbers from within Iran and seemingly without any outside assistance, and that's what I will focus on.

What's happening in S&B is going to have huge consequences for Iran in the coming months, and everyone should pay attention.

In what manner?

Not questioning or demeaning your statement.

Just wondering what the action you think will happen entails.

I think if the dems win the House or Senate, the IRGC will probably try to maintain the status quo and ride it out until Trump is out and let American politics provide the support they need. Seems doubtful that they could last that long, but it's their best chance.

If the Republicans win, then they might just get desperate and do more stupid stuff to remind everybody how awful they are and escalate the timetable of their departure from planet Earth.

Gotcha

A mine hit the stern of the vessel? Looks more like it was a boat or missile that hit the back of the ship. I guess the if it was in a turn the stern could have swept over a mine not struck by the bow but t a ship that large turns very gradually. Or maybe it was being maneuvered by tugs?

While that is possible (the mines can be magnetically drawn up toward the city-sized ships as they pass) there's still no reason to take the IRGC claims real seriously imho.

But at least we're not talking about the Hormuz Letter at this point. I think Nexta can be correct from time to time.

The bottom line though is that traffic through Hormuz is only steadily increasing, not dropping. The container ship that was sunk last week, or the wine transport ship being hit really don't impact that.

Iran is lying about what they are actually doing. There have been reports of small boats using RPGs. That's the most likely situation given Iranian capabilities.

They want everyone to believe the strait is mined again so that traffic will not attempt to cross.

Only agreement should be how thick the glass left.

Define correct. Is he correctly reporting something that a "source" told him? Yeah, probably. Is the war with Iran about to come to an end? Doubtful.

Interesting read. The sooner our decision-makers assume Iran will respond irrationally - the sooner they will decide to cripple Iran's oil infrastructure to such a level that it will require 2+ years to repair.

Tehran is a Different Beast Now
Quote:

... Public squabbling and factional rivalries are a hallmark of politics in the Islamic Republic, but are often over-indexed by Western observers, so hope that some internal regime fissure will ease America's dilemma is unrealistic. If the regime survives a few more years, differences between Iran's newly shuffled leaders perhaps could widen into gulfs and present real forks in the road for Iran, but a shared bunker mentality during this crisis almost certainly will keep their tactical disagreements from being too meaningful for U.S. policy.

Right now, too much focus on Tehran's leadership dynamics is a distraction that prevents Washington from stepping back and acknowledging that there is some broad strategic coherence to New Tehran's harder-line posture. Taken collectively, Iran's actions in the past seven months can be read as reflecting a sober reassessment based on its bitter lessons from the war. New Tehran recognizes that there is little to gain by playing it safe: Its only chance to survive is an aggressive posture that imposes enough cost that the United States and its regional partners can no longer easily threaten the Islamic Republic's existence even if that brinksmanship brings the regime's own survival to the edge.

Oil Update:

Quote:

Persian Gulf oil exports have surpassed prewar levels, as an improvised shipping system under U.S. protection is helping tankers move oil through one of Iran's fiercest waves of attacks in the Strait of Hormuz.

Middle East oil flows, including shipments through Hormuz and alternative routes across the region, averaged more than 24 million barrels a day in the week through Oct. 18, surpassing prewar levels of 23.3 million, according to ship tracker Kpler.

Preliminary figures show Hormuz oil flows, including offshore transfers in the Gulf of Oman, came to around 14 million barrels a day on average for the same period, or 82% of prewar levels.

Pipelines across Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates are also moving oil along different routes. In September, about 40% of the non-Iranian crude shipped out of the Gulf bypassed the strait, compared with 17% before the war, Kpler estimated.

Traders are concerned the improvement in Hormuz might not be sustainable, particularly if fighting breaks out again. Thinning global inventories leave little margin for error. The operation is also expensive, costs that ultimately flow through to consumers at the pump.

That's the story on how to beat the US since Vietnam. You're not going to beat us in a slugfest - we're too rich and we're too lethal. You beat us by making the continued fight politically unpalatable.

Precisely the reason why the US should flip the "kill switch" on Iran's economic lifelines - revenue (Kharg), banking (Bessent), and trade (Bandar Abbas). If Iran's strategy is to prolong the conflict - the US strategy should be to make a long war pointless.

Other parts of the world needs IRANIAN oil so taking out their production facilities does not seem to be a viable strategy because it means higher prices for a long time particularly in Europe which is partly burning now because of higher prices of everything. There is no question that IRAN's economy is barely on life support and lots of folks are not getting paid including the IRGC etc, but those people like to suffer and I doubt it will cause the regime to fall. However, it may cause the regime to sign a piece of paper regarding the nuclear program which eventually they will disown anyway.

Do we think they are just turning up the heat this week and the next because of midterms? Then like Trump alluded to a few weeks back post midterms their economy will fully collapse?

I feel like their economic conditions are basically on life support.

I kind of wonder if we are getting ahead of ourselves on the positive news regarding a potential Ukraine war deal. IOW, we think we may have solved that and gotten Russia sidelined so now we are going to resume here with Iran. Dunno. Just spitballin'.

No need to take out their production /wells anyway since very little of it can get to market. Take out pipelines feeding fuel to power plants and maybe refineries would be an option tho since it's a relatively quick fix after this thing is over.

I'll believe it when I see some actual results because of it.

They were supposed to have to have shut in all of their oil wells 8 months ago.

I've noticed nobody's mentioning that anymore....
Deerdude

Never heard that they actually did, but would guess that they had to. I did read much mostly from amateurs about what could happen to the wells if they were shut in potentially damaging them.

Lesson learned from this graph - never take your boot off Iran's neck as an act of goodwill. Iran was on track to deplete their on-water oil reserve by mid-July. Lifting the blockade allowed their on-water reserve to extend into October - costing us 3 months of maximum pressure.
