Question for the crowd - is Trump trying to leverage the Saudis into joining the Abraham accords by standing back here and showing them that they aren't capable of self defense without US support?

Or is the move to just strategically avoid additional escalation?

Or is it both? BOTH

Seems like activity from our military has quieted down and we are back to a holding pattern seeing if an exit ramp appears.

Quieting down of US military action may be driven by the "lack of targets".

They still have electricity, water, bridges, ports and railways.

They still have kharg Island.

There are plenty of targets.

We decided to go to war. War isn't done well when it's done halfway.

Either shut it down completely or roundhouse them daily until their leadership is completely wiped out or they surrender without condition like the Japanese did.

Enough "deal making" with these neanderthals. They aren't interested in it. They WANT to die. We should accommodate them.

Yep its beyond old. Trump made the mistake of talking **** when the job wasn't complete. Then turns around and makes big statements and does nothing. This is turning into a LBJ level disaster. Iran is exceptionally vulerable. They barely can get water to the cities, inflasion is sky high, Their people hate their gov. Yet we play this bizzare game of who has the biggest mouth and can say the dumbest crap.

It's still two very powerful countries providing intelligence. We would and probably do things from an intelligence standpoint that the "UN" ugh, haven't blessed. I feel pretty confident there is other countries sending intelligence to Iran.

True. But big dfference between intel and targeting. My money says Russia identifies a strategic US military target, confirms its coordinates and provides updated information knowing Iran intends to attack it.

I guess my point is none of this is new. It's not some big headline at all. Providing intelligence of any kind that hurts adversaries is and has been going on forever. They have our air bases in the US under surveillance. When those bombers took off from Missouri at the start of this you think Iran didn't know it pretty quickly? China is doing it as well and has been.
It sucks but it's the world we live in.

Russia or China provided intel on location of CIA HQ in SA. Iran promptly attacked it.

So we've been forced to abandon our bases in the. Middle East because we can't defend them.

That seems like something bad, that will have historical implications

They hit the US Embassy and there was a cia headquarters there at the embassy. It was damaged in the attack.
Not saying you're wrong but what bases have we abandoned.

Edit. I'm pretty sure we have cia assets at most of our Embassies in the world.

If we abandon the bases because they're indefensible, the war wasn't responsible for that. They were already indefensible. Allowing a nation near those bases to build thousands on ballistic missiles was the problem, not their decision to use those missiles.

There were reports early in the war that we had taken a lot more damage than we admitted. Now in the last few days multiple outlets are reporting that we pulled personnel from multiple bases with no plans to go back while the war was ongoing.

The Defense Department's inspector general released a report this week on the damage, and a report came out this week about an Admiral confirming to servicemen that the US wouldn't be retuning to their Bahrain anytime soon.

I do agree that wars tend to reveal things that are already obsolete. But presumably we should have understood this and not started the war until we had done something about it. Now we just look weak.

I'm good with us abandoning them, if true. We don't need to be there. Maybe this just forced the issue.

I would have detonated a nuke in them before I left but that's just me being mean.

I spent a year in Bahrain on the NAVCENT staff. 97% of the personnel there are support personnel. The base is not there to protect Bahrain from an enemy invasion or attack. The base is there as a show of force in the region and to support the Navy and Marines deployed to the CENTCOM AOR. The removal of U.S. personnel from Bahrain was done in an effort to protect lives. Are there defenses in place to protect the base in case of attack, absolutely. But why risk the lives of personnel that can perform their jobs from the U.S. or anywhere else in the world? The Army and Air Force support their personnel in the AOR from South Carolina.

If the base took a direct hit and had a mass casualty event, the hollering and squawking about why were there non-essential personnel in harms way would be endless.

If you still think removing personnel from harms way makes us look weak, well this is America and you are entitled to your opinion, even if it is incorrect.

I don't know much about Tousi TV but this sounds like great news.

I laughed when I read that the Brits, who sanctioned Israel over whatever/gaza, now are cut off from Israeli intelligence, which matters topically here because MI5 has been funneling that then to the gulf arab states who now are comparatively blind on their own vs. Iran, but for whatever we share.

US urges GCC to put their own naval assets in the strait/Omani waters to 'monitor' Iranian actions, instead of just talk. Meanwhile, Iran did hit another tanker for an 'illegal passage' in the strait (apparently).

I thought Trump would pull out weeks ago but now I believe he is in it for the long haul, either Iran's people revolt or the Iran government does something really stupid and causes a devastating reaction by the mighty force of the US military.

I was in the camp with leaving but I think we have passed that point.

Agree. Trump is just being uncharacteristically quiet about our current action plan.

Trump said yesterday he has a "big decision" to make about the war in the next week or so. Whether or not he is being truthful is of course anybody's guess.

Quote:

"I have a big decision coming up. Do I want to go in and annihilate them [the Iranian regime] or do I not? It's a big decision. Anything could happen with me," he told the outlet.

Trump has made similar statements throughout the war, but his comments come before a Tuesday meeting with leaders from six Gulf countries on the sidelines of the U.N. General Assembly in New York City.

The president told Axios that his approach to the conflict going forward will depend on what the allied heads of state tell him at that meeting.

"I want to find out where they are and how they are doing. We have been very protective of them," he said.

Trump will meet at U.N. headquarters in Manhattan with leaders from Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Bahrain, Kuwait and Oman.

lol the U.S. did not close the Strait. What kind of laffy taffy do these people consume? This conflict has proven that the Strait was always being held hostage by Iran, the world was just appeasing them enough for the last 40 years to pay the tax some other way. Sorry Euro's, you are gonna have to pay the toll some other way besides free (to you) Obama bucks

Maybe others are shipping more because of that.

Iran was shipping 1.7 million bbls/day prior to the MoU
