So this guy, who is MSFT AI CEO reporting to Nadella, says that all white collar jobs will be gone in 12 months.

I am sure that includes his own CEO job - why do we need to pay 10s of millions to some bozo who has no vision, no leadership, no execution skills, and his only go-to power move is to layoff Americans and hire Indians/H1Bs. That can be done for a few cents by AI through clustering algorithms like K-Means. Corporate vision can be replicated by just asking ChatGPT, "What should my company work on in 2027", and voila!

So my question is, so many AI CEOs are used to passing intellectual gas like this. Should they be held responsible for their words? What should we do to this guy if in 12 mos, nothing is "replaced" and AI actually hits a wall? Perplexity CEO had claimed a year ago that in 6 mos there would be no HR jobs and a year later, here we are, I just talked to HR this morning.

Attention: My friend @Tom Fox. He runs his own lawyering business and this CEO chap says AI will take over lawyers.

Microsoft AI CEO says most white-collar jobs to be replaced with AI in 12 months; 'models coding better than humans'

Microsoft AI CEO Mustafa Suleyman on Thursday said that most of the tasks performed in white-collar jobs will be fully automated by Artificial Intelligence (AI) within the next 12 to 18 months.

In an interview with Financial Times, Suleyman said that white-collar jobs like lawyers, accountants and project manager which involve sitting down at a computer, will be fully automated by an AI.

He also gave the reference of software engineering, where professionals are reportedly using AI to assist with the vast majority of their code production. He said that in this scenario, the role of engineers is now shifted to doing "strategic" stuff, like architecting and putting things into production. This shift in job role has taken place in last six months, the expert said.

AI models can code better than most humans
Further, he said that today there are AI models that can code better than the vast majority of human coders, "maybe even all of them to date."

Suleyman also highlighted that creating a new model will become as simple as "creating a podcast or writing a blog." Institutions or organisations would be able to design an AI that suits their requirement.
AI agents will further be able to handle workflows of large institutions within the next two to three years, he said in the interview.

Good luck. Every single software I've EVER used is completed ******ed when it comes to supply chain. I'll sit back and wait for the inevitable clusterf*** if they try it. 40 years of stock on item A that moves 1/year, but negative stock on item B that moves 1,000/day.

It will go one of two ways, either hes right, or a massive bubble burst. You cant keep saying things are run by AI when we have people not in our country controlling said AI devices (cars, and anyone remember the amazon stores?) while also investing billions. Seems like the way to recoup this is to offshore things for cheap, and appease the investors by saying its due to AI gains

If this isn't complete BS, (and it is)...the only way it happens is if employers push down all the resultant problems and troubleshooting on to end users - just like they've done with customer service in the last decade or so.

So if you think it's bad now, just wait...

So, all the white collar jobs go away. Then B to B business goes in the tank as companies no longer sell to each other while B to C tanks as people can't buy ***** Then the rest of the jobs go away as the companies fold. Then the destitute jobless masses hunt down all of these AI " geniuses".

Sound about right? When is the movie?

I have no doubt AI can write better code than most engineers.
Can it reason better though?

The fact that Microsoft can afford to pay this idiot ought give us all pause and ask why we continue to let Windows be the prevailing operating system on so many computers.

You are never going to eliminate all of these jobs. Reduce them, sure, as you can likely do more work with all the AI tools.

We haven't been able to kill billions $ of annual waste on vision statements, pitch decks, and updates to "strategic thrusts". My guess is my white collar brethren will continue to find ways to milk $ from corps.

Man many of y'all have no idea what is coming. Hell it is already here...

The othersideAI CEO posted this early this week. He sounds just like me!

https://shumer.dev/something-big-is-happening

I said it months ago when one of my techs built a program with AI that we were paying $60k for in less than a few weeks. He just corrected the AI in a few places and it was done.

With tools like ClaudeAI (Clawdbot) you can basically build an AI company yourself. The stories are wild so far, and we've only had a few weeks of it. Our security vendors are freaking out in fear of what is to come.

anthropic CEO say the truth of the situation.

Just because someone says something doesn't mean it is true. I will bet a million dollars that all white collar jobs are not gone in 12 months.

Probably not, but I can guarantee you most Blue collar jobs won't be gone in a year. Hell, in a decade or two.

Competent individuals working with AI tools will always out compete pure AI replacements.

I noticed a phenomenon this week. I work for a Tech company. I was sent some ideas for a product that was obviously generated by our sales leader with AI. I asked for more information and they sent me an AI summarized transcript of the customer call. This was woefully inadequate to complete the task so we had a call. During this call I was reading back some hand written notes I made as we went through the request, this was met with a off put response that "you don't need to take notes there will be an AI summary of the call". I put together the information and the sales leader took the information and had Gemini summarize it into slides to send to the customer.

That is the person that will be replaced. Not the STEM person generating the real world data.

The worst part is using the AI tools makes you less likely to actually remember and understand the content.

Either he's deliberately blowing smoke up peoples' butts or he doesn't know his ******* from his elbow. Either way, I'm not taking him or his opinion on the matter seriously as it's in no way functionally practical to achieve what he's claiming.

Used to be standing in line at the grocery store was where we'd see all the dire Nostradamus predictions, but we'd dismiss them because we knew it to be rubbish.

Now it's a constant social media barrage from civil war to Skynet and everything in between, contributing to people losing their **** and lashing out.

The hype is progressing as expected.

IMO we are at about 1.7 right now.

4.0 won't likely be until around 2029.

While the guy is obviously exaggerating, the impact of AI shouldn't be underestimated. What percent of white collar jobs being eliminated would it take to tank the economy? 10% maybe?

The potential job losses in the next few years will be more than that. And there are no direct replacements for those lost jobs - people will need to come up with new ones. That takes time. Expect lots of new small startups that can use AI efficiently. These new/smaller startups will eat away at large legacy corporations, further increasing layoffs. The legacy corps will have a problem because they have legacy processes, thinking, and stuff like code that isn't as easily automated with AI than it is for someone starting from scratch. Expect a lot of disruption.

This last big disruptive tech to the economy was the Internet. This one may or may not be as big, but it will be as disruptive if not more so.

Would you rather work with an idiot on a project or do it all yourself?

We're not to this point yet, but in 5 years? 10? I expect some jobs will have a "get out of the way, human" moment between now and then. "Always" is a long time.
