Tom Homan just announced they are drawing down the surge in enforcement officers in MN this week.
those predictions he was coming in to ratchet things up aged pretty poorly. it was pretty clear he was sent in to clean up noem and bovino's messes and make a slow and quiet retreat.
1) Arrests are up. A lot.
2) MN police are actually helping. Even making arrests in some cases.
3) ICE doesn't need as many people in MN if MN police are helping.
4) Fewer ICE and more arrests does not sound like a retreat, it sounds like Homan telling the MN officials that he is going to file conspiracy charges against them for coordinating riots if they don't stop assisting rioters and start arresting rioters.
5) ICE is needed in places other than MN. Let the deportations continue.
There is a word that progressives don't recognize. It's called compromise. Homan came in, told them if MPD is told to do their job, then ICE and CBP can ramp back. It's what this country use to be founded on when it was great. I welcome a compromise and can freely admit that things were handled poorly, amends were made on both sides and the situation is better managed. One side can never admit fault on anything.
The wrongdoing is %100 with the Minnesota DFL (Dems) elected leaders at the State, Hennepin County, and City of Minneapolis. Period.
We have immigration law. The feds want to enforce the law. They have both a legislative and electoral mandate to do so.
Minnesota authorities have a responsibility to respond and assist when the feds are being hampered by organized/disorganized obstruction and violence.
I lived in Minnesota for 5.5 years. I have have first hand experience on the selective enforcement and prosecution of existing state and local laws there.
Trump should have been more firm in his approach here after the first 3-4 days and used the insurrection act due to the State and Local government NOT enforcing existing laws on harassment, obstruction, and other forms of violence.
