My church supports a food bank. We visited recently a met many good folks, most of them older and grateful.

The younger clients were typically obese and entitled and driving nicer cars than mine.

I'm not sure how you properly vet folks for need anymore. Pride used to do the heavy lifting.

Here's how you vet folks. It's really simple. Eliminate the centralized bureaucracy that hasn't a care in the world where the money goes and who it's taken from. That would restore it to where it should be: the local community.

The local community will know who really needs a helping hand and who just needs to get off their ass and get a job. IOW, just like 99% of the problems plaguing our society, just get the government out of it. Let the smallest possible unit deal with the problem. Let individuals and local communities solve their own problems. Let the free market work.

Not sure how some POS stealing supports your premise that the benefits should end.

If anything, it supports the continuation of the program as it's better for the stores if these people pay with snap rather than steal.

And even if they are caught stealing, they go to jail or prison where they cost more to house than the snap was costing.

Not saying we shouldn't enforce the law, but this video doesn't suggest that ending the benefits will solve the problem shown on the video.

The arrest and conviction rate is tiny, and often stores just track shoplifters until they cross the threshold for a felony charge for that reason. But when they are caught for felony shoplifting, yeah, jail time is a thing.

But even if they were never caught, how does that support the argument that we should cut the benefits? The video suggests that they steal less when the benefits are being paid, and if they really can steal at will, then it's probably cheaper for everyone to just pay the *******s not to.

Start shooting mother****ers that steal....problem will work itself out, eventually, either way.

If we hadn't had the silly-assed policy of handouts in the first place, people wouldn't have become accustomed to "free ****" in the first place.

So, yes, it definitely lends itself to the program being done away with in its entirety.

They will make their kids do the stealing. Even if you ignore the fact that it's currently very illegal to shoot people for shoplifting, if you are ok with executing 10 year old girls in HEB parking lots, then you have problems.

I'd be ok severely beating the 10 year old and then putting them in harsh prison for at least five years. How does that sound?

Adults should be shot on sight

The stealing is not the problem. The problem is that these programs have created generations of welfare queens with no end in sight. The taxpayers were supposed to be lending a helping hand. Instead, we got millions of people like this woman with an ungrateful entitlement attitude who think they're justified in stealing with even just a hint that their gravy train might be coming to an end. I'm pretty sure that attitude is the worst possible outcome for what this program was intended to do.

Insane. What you are saying with this is that we should pay them not to steal. Let's say I threaten to steal from you unless you pay me. See the problem there?

This is why you make examples out of people. Make it clear that theft will not be tolerated and will be dealt with swiftly and harshly. Do that, and this isn't a problem.

Once again, I refer you to the above responses. I just cannot understand your positions. How is this not infuriating? Taxpayers have been paying for these people for decades. And before we even had one day of their benefits being cut, they openly threaten to steal. That has got to be the most irrefutable proof that they should be cut off immediately.

Pay
In
Food

Want your SNAP? Go to the store and get pre-packaged weekly handouts. Not a card with cash to buy whatever you want.

And, if you want free food, you have to cook it. No pre-packaged crap or snacks. Meat, bread, veggies, fruit and milk. A week's worth to give everyone 1,800 calories per day. And if you have kids in school, only give them a 700 calorie meal for the 5 days they are in school. They get free breakfast and lunch.

Cut the cost at least in half, and cut out alot of the fraud as well. Oh, and when you show up, must have proof of citizenship. If not, go back home and get it.

IMO we should cut all the welfare programs entirely. But since that is highly unlikely, I'll say you're sort of close to a non-infuriating system of taking my money and giving it to someone else. The main thing you're missing is a work requirement. At this point, I would say that a solid 90-95% of these people are totally detached from the "earn" part of "earn your keep." Until that problem is resolved, the system will always be immoral and infuriating.

Now that's the kind of actual discourse I like to see on a site that reflects on my Alma Mater.

I think it's important for people to connect those dots, because removing the benefits doesn't mean people don't steal. It means you get civil unrest, more theft, and then maybe eventually a reset to a world where they aren't accustomed to the handout.

As long as everyone is on the same page that things would get much worse before they get better, I can at least respect the honesty.

We should stop paying people off to behave. Lets rip of the bandaid and get it over with.

All this is nothing more than posturing by the left, and after they get trounced today they'll try to claim victory and compromise to vote in the CR.

Fair enough. There are a LOT of bitter pills we as Americans need to swallow. Unfortunately, the govt just keeps handing out candy when we desperately need the pills. Hard times are coming. And since we are dead set on avoiding the pain it's going to be a lot worse than it needs to be.

The #1 issue in the USA right now is getting the most prolific baby mamas their SNAP funds. Nothing else is more important.
