As someone who spent a few years of my life on Govt assistance as a kid. I'm all for a system that props you up and fills the gap in times of need. I received free breakfast and .25 cent lunches at school. Parents divorced in '74 and Dad wasn't good about child support payments. Mom finished her degree and got a job. No more govt assistance.

It's not supposed to be a life style.

It might be AI however this is a very common activity. I employ a few lower income laborers and they are regularly either buying or selling their benefits in order to get cash or stretch dollars. If you need beer money sell $100 of SNAP for $50, you get to buy beer with the cash, the other guy gets $100 of food for 1/2 price! Win/Win for all involved.

Only fix is to make user of SNAP Card show photo ID that must match. We all know that Photo ID is always blocked by the left. It is not just for voting cheating but also for welfare cheating.

Locked up right at the door in an instant...I asked the cart-boy near me what happened and he explained that they sometimes go off by mistake and apologized. I honestly don't know if I buy that...most likely either some dipsh** was playing games or maybe someone thought they saw me do something I didn't do?

I have a pretty long fuse with this type of stuff IRL but that hurt so much I was p*ssed...and especially so because I see people stealing from these stores all the time and would never do so myself.

The way you and your family did it is the way getting government assistance should be - a helping hand to get you back on your feet. It's not supposed to be a way of life.

Yet for decades upon decades our government has let it be that way. There's a reason, and it's not because the poor are the ones making the laws.

Follow the money, and lobbyists, and I'm sure things will become clearer as to where the other part of the blame belongs, because it's not just the ones with the SNAP cards. The entitled ones are a problem, no doubt. Are they the only ones to blame? Not by a mile.

Cart boy was steering you right. They trigger automatically, there's no one behind a switch. If the reset mechanism didn't reset correctly, the cart thinks you were bailing and locked up.

It must end as it is not the responsibility of government to take care of people, damned sure the federal government doesn't have the responsibility, right, or even constitutional authority for it (but like many things the Constitution has been trampled for the sake of doing something nice / good which has massive unintended consequences and at some point was found to be "legal" in court even if blatantly unconstitutional).

I think it senses when you go through a check out line. The one time mine lacked up unexpectedly it was after I went through the self check closest to the exit I was using.

This breakthrough technology harnesses the combined power of copper, magnets, and select essential oils...

Bringing a cart into the store, whomever does it, "locks" the cart to where it won't leave the store. When you go pay for your stuff, the cart gets "unlocked" so you can leave. No pay no unlock. Lather rinse repeat. Sometimes the "unlock" may get sticky, or the cart got pushed too close to an exit somewhere, or sometimes it thinks there was an in and out. If someone had shoplifted with your cart, it would stay locked until it got manually reset. So unless you were drifting the whole time you were shopping, it was a misfire with unlocking.

There's a bunch of retailers who use it. Some were getting really creative with their app, and bluetooth devices, and figuring out patterns and movements which occurred right before a theft. One of the big box HI stores figured out people were taking tool sets to the restrooms to dig out the embedded tags in the boxes before walking out with them.

I'm shocked there are as many people in here advocating to "fix" a program that is broken from the foundation. It's socialism. The current absurdity of this program is just the late stages of collectivism that progresses to enormous waste, fraud, abuse and that ultimately always ends in collapse. Abolish the whole thing.

I will be blunt and just say it. There is not one single person in the United States that NEEDS taxpayer funded food…or any form of govt provided welfare for that matter. People need to learn to be self reliant and they'll never get there with these programs. For the extremely unfortunate all of this should be handled by charities, churches, food drives, soup kitchens, etc…like it used to be. The percentage of the population that falls into this category has to be extremely small which could easily be handled by local communities and the above mentioned options.

Hell, John stossel did an undercover expose about panhandling and, IIRC, he found that he could make around $10 an hour just sitting on the ground with a cardboard sign.

This is the way! Unfortunately universal suffrage guarantees that nothing can be done about it at the ballot box.
