Ain't it great what entitlement programs do to people. You're going to keep giving me free **** and if you don't I'm going to steal it from people. Gotta love leftist thinking.

Not only would I shoot someone trying to take my property; I'd sleep well knowing that I did.

Another thought... Those delivering orders (my wife gets Wal-Mart to deliver stuff from the store to our door) may be targets. Or they may claim to have been targeted.

STOP LYING.

In fact, for fiscal year 2023 (post if you have more recent data), 19.5% of SNAP recipients are/were 60 or older. I know a LOT of people in their 60s, particularly early 60s, who are not only still working but would give you the dirtiest of looks if you referred to them as "elderly." I'm not far from that age group (I won't be specific as to how long) and absolutely no one would refer to me as "elderly;" now, or I suspect, for another 10 years at least. My sister, pushing 70, isn't what anyone would call elderly just by looking at her or being around her. Yet I know people younger than me -- in some cases many years younger -- that can't get around at all due to injury/illness or whatever.

The definition of elderly is, in a nutshell, "rather old." 60, or even 65, doesn't fit that definition and hasn't for many years. With the continued rising of SS age requirements, even the government basically agrees with me.

You're trying to take one fact (60 and older) and misrepresent what it truly means to attempt to make a political point. That's not misleading -- at least not anymore. That's downright lying.

For purposes of advancing their political agenda, the left always presumes the "elderly" to be home-bound, unable to use new-fangled technology, and in need of government assistance to do even the most simple tasks and provide food staples so that they don't starve.

I would not presume that the 19.5% of SNAP recipients over the age of 60 do not need the same scrutiny as those who are younger.

They believe if the government can't provide it then no other org is capable. Their biggest fear is a shutdown will show that charities and churches can go BACK to filling the need and people will realize they don't need to rely on the government. That's less power the politicians have and it scares them

Doesn't this make anyone stop and think?

Yes. And yes, it makes me stop and think, if you try to take what is mine away from me via use of force, you deserve to be shot.

Want me to give you some food? Just ask. It's not that hard. I mean, if you're going to resort to stealing, it's not like you have any pride to swallow.

Yes, the progressive left must continue to patronize their voter base by keeping them dependent or at least believing they are dependent on handouts provided by the taxpayers via the progressive left. It is about maintaining power and control for the leftist political class.

The poor in America are sometime poor due to the misfortunes of low IQ, mental or physical illness or disability. Often they are poor due to a series of poor and short sighted choices which are ironically often driven by impulsive greed. But in America, even our poorest of poor live better than the vast majority of the rest of the world, and in some ways better than most wealthy Americans of a few decades ago. Mostly, if anyone is wanting food assistance, it is Noe because they spent their money on something else discretionary and use the fungibility of money to turn food and other publicly provided subsidies into more personal spending money.

One side is threatening violence to get groceries from innocent shoppers. Many are going to respond aggressively to that.

And your response is some pearl clutching plea for starving people.

No one is going to starve, and you absolutely know it. No one starves in this country. We're the fattest country on Earth.

How about not threatening violence as the first step? Seems reasonable.

If food security isn't a problem for some people, I wonder why HEB bothered to donate 6 million?

1. To keep regular law abiding shoppers from getting robbed in an HEB parking lot, because that's bad for business across the board. As is criminal thugs trying to forcefully take things they didn't pay for through threat of, or actual use of, violence in that same parking lot. Funny, businesses don't like that kind of thing happening on their property as it tends to cause customers to seek their products elsewhere.

2. Tax write off

3. Great advertising to folks like you

Folks with your attitude are the exact reason why thugs continue to do thug things. Because you make excuses for thug behavior and somehow try to make regular people that don't act like thugs and do thug behavior the bad guys. Quit doing that sht.

No one has the right to take another person's property.

And in Texas, the use of lethal force to defend one's self is protected by state law.

Of course nobody has the right to take anyone else's property. I didn't say that.

But I would wonder why someone was so desperate to steal groceries in the first place.

So they can afford all of their other fancy things. Not only are most of these people morbidly obese and the exact opposite of 'starving', look around...look at what they own, what they are driving. I have middle class friends who live more frugal than many of these people.

I'm not talking about someone stealing cars, computers, money, phones.

I'm wondering why normal humans could look at people who are desperate for food and then be very happy shooting them.

They aren't desperate for food. They just don't want to spend their own money on it. And they would rather take it from you. What, you think the folks posting these videos plan on just sneaking a bag from your cart while you aren't looking?

My wife used to be a pharmacist. She would get cursed out and called racial slurs at times when a black medicaid patient's copay went up $1-2...often times these people were in nice SUV's like Lincoln Navigators, or had fancy Louis Vutton bangs/accessories etc.

But they were almost always fat, and the opposite of starving. If anything, a very low calorie diet, consisting of the basics might be exactly what they need. Losing weight could save many from dialysis, diabetes, death.

Rather than spending free money on candy and beer and lottery tickets, maybe they can take earnings from a job and carefully plan out a food budget of wholesome and healthy beans, rice and potatoes. Then when they get on their feet maybe they will get a raise or find a better job and upgrade to ground beef and chicken.

Early in my career I did a lead based paint survey in some section 8 housing complexes in Detroit. We would go out and be let into multiple units by the property management with the units selected at random and then had to go into each room including closets, bathrooms, and pantries and do XRF readings and collect small paint chips for analysis. I got an up close and personal look into the lives of Section 8 recipients that I will never forget. There were a few places where it was obviously a single parent household with a mom who really took care of the kids and where the money spent was on desks for their rooms, books, decent food in the pantry, etc. There were a lot more where the parent's master bedroom was full of nice furniture and they had a huge TV on the wall, and the kid's rooms had a sleeping pad on the floor with a blanket and pillow and all their clothes stacked against the wall. The pantry was full of junk food and alcohol, and in many cases there were drugs and needles in the open on the tables.

Oh yeah, and lots of nice Cadillacs and Lincolns in the parking lots. Since then, I have been a big proponent for drug testing welfare recipients randomly and for heavy restrictions on what SNAP and other welfare could be used to pay for.

She is talking to (not warning others about) a segment of the population that would "snatch yo groceries" and look at you and say "I wish you wooooood". Those are her words.

I have never met a disabled granny that spoke that way.

Also note how she goes into "cracker" voice when she talks about the family that works hard in order to "afford this affordability" (that made me chuckle). This is a racist spewing gasoline on an already hot fire. A Tik-tok "PSA" is how you do it without getting called out for it when/if it actually happens. She wants it to happen. She just wants someone else to do it so she does not get shot. Coward.

Sounds like we are about the same age. Hard to believe the Atari kids are debating when they become elderly.

Snatching something from you and you experience the slightest pain or threat of any injury is a ROBBERY in Texas. Theft + assault or the threat of assault = robbery.

Texas Penal Code - PENAL 9.32. Deadly Force in Defense of Person
(a) A person is justified in using deadly force against another:
(1) if the actor would be justified in using force against the other under Section 9.31; and
(2) when and to the degree the actor reasonably believes the deadly force is immediately necessary:
(A) to protect the actor against the other's use or attempted use of unlawful deadly force; or
(B) to prevent the other's imminent commission of aggravated kidnapping, murder, sexual assault, aggravated sexual assault, robbery, or aggravated robbery.

This would be a bad idea to do in Texas.

When you give people necessities, discretionary income rises. If someone pays for their food, that leaves a welfare recipient income to buy other things like Cadillacs, drugs, etc.

This is why welfare should ALWAYS include a work requirement.

Yep.

Years ago I learned that there is a large portion of people in assistance programs who don't need to be.

Normal people need to realize that handing a person money is one of the worst ways of helping.

We need to abolish SNAP, food stamps, and school-based free meals. If people choose to spend their money on nails, hair, phones, and luxury phones instead of food, then so be it.

Let me explain something...

People talking about robbing people in the parking lot aren't "desperate for food".

They are pissed off that "their benefits" are being cut and want to lash out at working folks.

If I were in a situation where I couldn't feed my family due to losing my job and my savings the first thing I'd do is look at selling some of my stuff to be able to buy food.

Stealing and robbing would be at the bottom of my list.

Even though you brought up people being "happy" without any basis, and staff even called you out on it...

I would never be "happy" about shooting someone because I know the legal issues I'd be up against, even if it were a "good shoot". I will not, however, let someone rob me without defending myself.
