I actually don't have a problem with this response.

Saying you are going to help teachers and administrators navigate social media responses is helpful, especially given that they called the event a tragedy, and reminding everyone to be thoughtful about social media.

That said, I would like to see a blanket response from them saying that advocating for or celebrating political violence is unacceptable, and encouraging everyone from abstaining from that.

You assume corporations care about what is repugnant and what isn't. You assume they care about right or wrong.
Reality is they have sniffed out the current political climate and want to align themselves to it. People don't have patience for liberal nonsense so they are quickly getting in line so they don't lose business and funding.

The important point is when the sands shift and things get more liberal, these same companies will be protecting the people like those who are rejoicing these killings.

Keep this in mind before we celebrate but let's enjoy this while it lasts.

After talking to my stepdaughter this weekend about her classes and teachers, they pretty much already have no teacher. I was blown away by how little the teachers actually do in classes these days. She's a sophomore in what is supposed to be a highly rated school district.

She said in PE, they're told to do whatever they want as long as they don't sit down. There's no organized activities. They have two "coaches" in the class and when I asked what they did during class time, she said they sit at their desks.

I asked about English, and she said they'll give them a reading prompt and tell them to "write something" about it. When I asked specifically what type of writing, like a summary, a critique, whatever....she said "they don't care. Just as long as it's xx number of lines."

Her elective is an unmanned aerial flight class. The first 5 minutes of the class they complete some sort of online "skills" test, and the rest of the class they play whatever video games they want.

The only class she likes is Chemistry because it actually challenges her.

It's insane to me that my low-performing, inner city highschool from 30 years ago was light years better than this affluent suburban "exemplary" school she's currently attending.

So yeah....burn the entire public education system to the ground and start over. I'm good with that.

This always gets lost in the mix, or at least blurred, when the free speech discussions start. You can say what you want but your employer, your church, or your friends/family may choose to part ways with you as a result.
