The giant meat packing plant 12 miles west of me is mostly staffed by "legal" refugees from every God forsaken hell hole on the planet. I believe the school system over there has something like 34 languages being spoken.

Cattle prices are high because herd sizes are low. The end.

Commodity prices (other than beef) are actually dropping right now because this has been a good growing season in most of the country. High yields = lower prices.

Again. Beef is expensive now because supply is down and demand is up. I know that's a difficult concept for some to understand.
And profits are not a given in the beef industry. But it's nice to make money once in awhile.

not sure i agree with that.

export markets are diminished for row crop commodities which has shrank the addressable market. i don't believe it's entirely because the growing conditions were good, although that could contribute to yields and exacerbate the issue.

specialty crops, it hasn't been a great year and prices have been stable if not slightly elevated domestically and when imports have been involved they have flooded/cratered the market. overall, it also appears fresh produce consumption is down. there have been blips, like grape importers getting ahead of tariffs/usda marketing order or the influx of mexican imports during the first half of this year to get ahead of any prospective tariff action. overall it's been a rough 12-18 months for domestic growers.

It's already here. A big can of coffee is $20. Don't get me started on steaks. Even fajita meat, traditionally the cheapest cut, has gotten out of hand.

Bidenflation.

My butcher in Bella Vista still has chuck eye steaks for $9.99/lb and ribeyes for $15.49/lb. They can't afford to upset the blue hairs up there. I take full advantage.

I hope y'all had productive gardens this year and have begun your canning.

"The first wave of grocery-price increases will likely hit this winter. Roberson predicted produce prices could rise 50% to 100% by early next year as inventories clear and new contracts kick in. And unlike past decades, when Washington would quietly ease border enforcement to keep fields staffed, today's political environment suggests no such check.

'This is like when you see a flood coming, the tsunami is coming in, and the water's gone up two inches,' Robertson warned.

The reason for the labor shortage is American-born workers simply do not want to do manual work at the wages typically offered to foreign-born, undocumented workers, Robertson said. Undocumented workers are used to getting paid around $18 an hour to pick strawberriesthe type of wage American citizens can get working at an ice cream shop."

Forbes: Get Ready

Meanwhile:

Deport those who work in your fields and meat processing plants

Again: undocumented workers are net assets for the U.S. economy.

While I agree it's a dumb comeback, rightists love to ignore that Covid crashed the world economy and the US recovered better than most. So, blaming President Biden without considering Covid's effects on the economy is just as dumb.

Let's be clear. Covid didn't crash the world economy. Governments crashed their own economies and thus the world economy. Covid made people sick and some of them died. Government created the mass hysteria and panic that resulted from it. It's the best reminder in our lifetime that government is the most destructive force known to man.

Every single time a 'Covid truther' spouts off this nonsense i implore them to look at hospitalizations and death rate. Not 'COVID Hospitalizations' or 'COVID Deaths' but raw totals of all deaths/hospitalizations. There is a massive spike in 2021 for both. Whether you think 'lockdowns' and the economy were governmental induced consequences, the 1 thing you cannot explain is the explosion in deaths and hospitalizations.

The REASON EVERY SINGLE ECONOMY around the world crashed and countries like the US AND EFFING CHINA shutdown was because their hospitals were being overrun. You want hysteria? Imagine a world where hospitals are turning away people because they physically don't have space to treat patients.

Ok? That changes nothing. Government created a panic and gave some really, really bad "advice" on how to navigate a world with a new, poorly understood virus. The spike in 2021 was almost entirely government created. By then we knew for a fact that the vaccine was mediocre, masks had no impact on spread and social distancing was silly. We also knew therapeutics like ivermectin were very effective in shortening the cycle when administered early on. Instead of telling people that got it to avoid others and get some ivermectin we banned ivermectin in some places and forced people to take the mediocre vaccines as if they were the only way to save your own life. Government acted extremely poorly during this period and exacerbated the problem in a really big way. Not sure how you can argue that but go ahead.

Because if they stop arguing, they have to admit to themselves that they are and always have been wrong. Hence why the only arguments they have are made up revisionist history (attempting to get you to accept their basic WRONG premise so they can use it from that point forward as a baseline), economic stupidity, gaslighting, and straight up lies.

Because you're acting like the US Govt's actions somehow caused the hysteria inducing consequences.

The efficacy of masks and social distancing is one thing, but their implementation was a response to the deaths and hospitalizations. The covid lockdowns did not precipitate the spike in deaths.

And if the US was somehow uniquely belligerent in their handling of the COVID outbreak, then why did we see similar death rate spikes and hospital crowding AROUND THE WORLD? Trump/Biden didn't have any influence over how...Italy, for example, handled the pandemic yet they experienced the same consequences.

Don't get me wrong. I'm all for deporting illegals. But we need workers for the jobs Americans don't want. The employers got used to years of cheap labor without doing the proper paperwork.

Foreigners should be here legally, documented, and go home after the work is done.

Quite the dramatics here.
Hospitals in the US were being overrun?
Remember the hospital ship off NYC that was never used?

You realize that not all of that increase is purely because of people dying of COVID right?
People put off their regular checkups because they were at home, scared by the democrats to go anywhere out in public.
Cancer screenings reduced.
Heart screenings reduced.
You know what happens when you don't do preventative care?
You know what happens when people are stuck at home with abusive spouses
You know what it does to the mental state of Type A people when they are forced to not leave their house?

The answer might shock you.
