But not the ability…

This video was delicious. This is why I love shows like OPL and Body Cam - FA always FO. I was really hoping they'd pull the friend who was resisting out and hogtie shackle her.

We all thought body cams would show us how 95% of cops abuse their power and only shoot minorities.

What it's shown us is the opposite is true and 95% of the bad encounters is the cop actually showing a lot of restraint.

Regardless of what happens vis a vis her employment with us, she's going to have a long time coming back from this. It's just really unfortunate."

And FTR, yeah, she was an idiot. But if she is an otherwise capable AG and does a good job, I don't see the need to fire here. She got arrested for being a drunk idiot. Can anyone here claim they've never done something stupid they regret and learned a life lesson from it?

Maybe he gives here all the crap cases for a year or so and assigns her some community service where she has to speak publicly about drinking, DUI, etc. and not being an idiot. First thing she does at any public speaking event is play the video and comments with some self depreciating humor. Give her a chance to get out of the hole she dug

Obviously if she doubles down and maintains the cops were wrong, then yeah, she needs to be gone. I guess I'm a big believer in second chances in life unless there is a pattern of behavior and this was the icing on the cake.

I tend to agree with punishment vs firing someone for just being a drunk idiot. But when you allow that to go into abusing your position to influence others, I'm no tolerance on that.

This.

Had she not threatened the cop with retaliation, I'd be OK with not firing her. She has no business being in a position of prosecuting others on behalf of the state. She can go work as a defense attorney.

Nah. There's being drunk on your own time, and then there's this. Excessive public drunken behavior, trespassing, and the abusive conduct toward the police more than warrants termination, especially as a prosecutor, even without the badge flashing

I still want to know what they did to have the restaurant kick them out. They obviously have money to spend and both are fairly attractive so that usually buys you a lot of leeway in those situations.

Was it simply a case of they didn't have reservations and demanded to be seated because, not sure if you knew this, one of them was an AG.

If I go out and get **** faced and act like an ******* that's on me, but if I do it with my company's branded shirt, I am representing the business i work for. By stating she was an AG she immediately began representing the entire AG office and how they operate.

She should be terminated.

She compromised the relationship the prosecutors entire office will have with local law enforcement and with the people. The integrity of the AG department is now tarnished by her voicing her association coupled with her actions. Sorry, your services are no longer needed here.

At around 9:51 p.m. on Aug. 14, officers responded to the restaurant at 24 Bannister's Wharf for a report of an "unwanted party," the Newport Police Department said.

Police reports for both Flanagan and the involved friend state that alcohol was involved.

The officer then walks over to the restaurant's host station.

"You guys just want them out? Do you want them trespassed?" the officer asks.

"Anything we can do. Trespass, yeah. Cuff 'em. Please," a man at the host station says.

I am less concerned with her being arrested for being a drunken idiot than her trying to use her position as an AG as a get out of jail free card and showing the really poor judgement of resisting arrest after it was clear that the cop had had enough of her refusing to obey his orders. Those two behaviors are problematic to me for a person involved on the government side of the judiciary system. She should know better, and the fact that all it took was a few drinks for her to do that is problematic. Does she need to be fired? I don't know...but I would certainly want to see some legal re-education and alcohol abuse therapy before I was willing to trust her in any kind of prosecutorial role again.

what is amazing is that ANY CEO who did the same thing would be fired by the Board of Directors the next day.

here you have one of the CHIEF LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICERS in the entire state threatening law enforcement and basically extorting a cop to let her go.

I'll say this as a guy that was married to an alcoholic suburban white woman for 18 years. That whole interaction sent shivers down me from familiarity. I really think that when they get to that point nothing is registering in their brains. I can't count the number of times I had to plead with with different people and establishments over her behavior while trying to just get her out. Then she'd have absolutely no receptor any of it the next day.

Well, God bless them both. I hope if alcohol is a problem for either of them that this incident served as a wake-up call.

No, I have never acted like an entitled *******, arrogantly putting myself above social norms and laws, and treating proprietors, patrons, and law enforcement with disrespect and condescension, refusing to comply, and then presenting as though I were the victim, ultimately throwing a tantrum.

There is making a mistake, or doing "something stupid" as you so generally put it, a term which people manipulate as if every stupid decision to criminal act were equal, and then there is behaving in such a manner that shows us the kind of person you are.

This woman has shown us who she is and is undeserving of her position.

This is where I am at.... the only thing "learned" was that this lady doesn't have the temperament, or self-control, you need in an AG.

I must be the only one to never see someone cut-off / kicked out of a restaurant to be invited back in and served after being an *******. Same with arguing with cops... you would think it works almost every time based on how many people insist on doing it.

It is all about "needing to be right". She didn't care that she was being asked to leave, she cared about making sure the cop knew he wasn't allowed (according to her) to record her being forced to leave. She was ready to take that argument to her (career's) grave. If that cop had said "Alright, you are correct" and pretended to turn off his body cam, she would have stopped arguing and agreed to leave pretty quickly. But because he did not acknowledge that she was right, she was willing to risk arrest, etc. to prove it.

It not like this hasn't happened before. Remeber our old friend and Travis County DA Rosemary Lehmberg?

She was the broad who was caught cruising down RR 620 in 2013 with an open bottle of vodka and a BAL of .239. She also pulled the "I'm the DA" card, and followed up with a cool video of her in the drunk tank hollering and kicking at the walls.

She was a full DWI on steroids, and STILL didn't lose her job. Perry even tried to cut funding to her department to get her to resign, and the "special prosecutor" the county found to go after Perry was successful in getting him indicted on an ethics charge, no less. Naturally, it was shot down by the Court of Criminal Appeals prior to trial.

But in good ol' Travis County, Rosemary kept her job until she "retired" in 2017.
