You've got a political party in the dems that want the ship to go down and I guess they want to go down with it. All because they were voted out and lost power. You can't reason with them and no use trying.
What ship is going down? We're discussing police militarization for a fake emergency.

I've lived in the DC area for the past 17 years. Things got significantly worse here after COVID. I believe homicides more than doubled from 116 in 2017 to 274 in 2023. The homeless population also exploded. They are everywhere now and we have large encampments in public parks which I did not see from 2008-2020.
It may also be true that crime is down marginally from the peak in 2023 but that year was historically awful with some crimes like carjacking increasing by 10x compared to pre COVID.
And I think the teens who dropped out of school permanently during the COVID school shutdowns are the biggest driver. I have a friend who is a DC cop who said they arrest the teens but the DA does not prosecute them for anything less than murder or attempted murder. All other charges are dropped and they are released the same day, even after they are arrested.
The police in DC are pissed that people they arrest face no consequences and they have stopped arresting teens for most crimes since it is pointless.
The situation in DC is as bad as it gets.
DC paid protester requests surge 400% amid Trump’s federal takeover of city police: crowd company https://t.co/wpyfZLHT2G

Quote:
A crowd rental company has seen a massive uptick in inquiries regarding its services in Washington, D.C., amid President Donald Trump's move to federalize the police force in the nation's capital.
"Right now, D.C. inquiries are up roughly 400% compared to the same period in 2024," Crowds on Demand CEO Adam Swart told Fox News Digital, adding that the time period he is referencing is May to July 2024.
The company always sees a spike in requests during what Swart calls "high-stakes political moments."
"A large share are focused on opposing Trump's policies in Washington and raising alarms about government overreach," Swart said. "We're weighing those offers carefully because while there's truth in saying D.C.'s local government has been an abject failure in keeping citizens safe, there's also a real danger in putting too much power in federal hands. That balance of power matters."
Swart said the "vast majority" of people at political or advocacy events in D.C. are in some way paid.
"Most people don't know this, but many protesters are literally on the payroll Capitol Hill staffers from both parties are often expected to show up at rallies and protests on their own time," he said. "So yes, most attendees are being paid or are there because it's part of their job. That doesn't mean they don't support the cause but it does mean these crowds aren't as 'organic' as they appear on TV."

I am interested to see to crime statistics that would warrant a sudden federal takeover. I have a strong feeling they do not exist as violent crime rates have been dropping for decades now in big cities. I suspect this is just more buttering up the public to Trump's abuses of federal power,
What crime statistics would be of interest? The murder rate in Washington, D.C. today is greater than Bogota, Mexico City, and more ⬇️

I am interested in what crime data would be supportive of 'let's just let this thing keep going as-is.' I think this is 'change we can believe in.'
As I have family that live/work in the area, I admit to having a vested interest. Nothing is safe in town at this point, even at rush hour. It's absurd, and unacceptable, but that is what happens when Democrats run a city.
This... isn't how statistics work or how this comparison would be done by an intellectually honest administration.
- is it 2024 or 2025
- if this is 2024 data ok
- that means crime is down 30% now
- oh that data is false? then where is this 2024 data from?
- no idea because no sources
- annualized? mid-year? Where did the other data come from?
- won't even get started on comparing 700k pop DC suburb to places like 8.8mil Bogota.. or simply ommited the other cities in the US more 'dangerous' than DC
They've invoked a never before used provision, related to emergencies, and they can't even give us numbers or what the emergency is? No data? Just stand at a podium and tell us the 'truth'.
But hey, maga loves them a good police state.
