Id submit there shouldnt be carve outs for anything at the 18 year old age break.

Its one thing that really chaps my hide. Were either adults at that age or not. So, if you commit a crime at 18 or older, your an adult. no special cases

If you commit a crime at 18 or younger, youre a child. There should be harsh penalties for violent crimes and murder

Same thing with other stuff-

Buy all available guns at 18
Buy liquor, tobacco, legal weed at 18
Vote at 18
Join the military/draft list at 18
And so on and so forth.

If were not going to consider 18 year olds as children, they shouldn't be considered children. If that needs to increase to 21, then so be it. But make it consistent

But the hell if we are going to let you pub crawl and rent a car.

Yea, drives me damn crazy.

If we have decided as a nation that 21 is the new responsible age where a child turns into a adult- fine

We've already decided that with alcohol, handguns, pot, and numerous other things.

But diving is 16 whereas voting, selective service, long rifles, tatoos, etc is 18.

And committing a crime is dependent on where, what, and the prosecution

I dont mind the rent car thing because I believe thayt to be industry driven.

I get your sentiment. But I think they are addressing the inability to charge as adults vs the requirement to.

I am not a fan of permanent records for kids making mistakes, particularly non violent mistakes. I am equally if more not a fan of hiding some dude killing his grandparents at 12yo then ending up becoming a serial killer after murdering his mother.

No, I dont think those under 17/under should be able to be charged as adults.

If its murder or violent crime, maybe they get re tried as adults or they have some sort of work release. I dunno what the answer is to that

Edmund Kemper may change your mind. Now he was 15 but heck Chicago has 8yos killing people.

But maybe the issue in my tangent deals with mental health and permanent asylums.

I've had to go to Memphis twice last year...talk about 3rd world.... when the Mississippi side is the nicer area, you know there are problems.
I can see the good people there wanting a return to good.

Actually just a bit over half of Congress doing its job.

They can vote in unison on tabloids fodder but keeping the Capitol from looking like meth-ed laden dog park barely gets across the line.
