Well, it'd be nice if the Feds seized the funds of whomever bankrolled their excursion. Maybe it's the Pritzkers?

If other states and organizations are working together to interrupt Texas' government... Why wouldn't that be under the FBI's jurisdiction?

As in the would have no standing to appeal to SCOTUS as clearly the state ruled it was following its own constitution.

Yep. Let's hope they get removed. Then the Texas state house will be 100% GOP.

Burrows would still find a way to hand over control to the dems…

There is going to be a lot of crow to eat on this thread if Abbott goes much further. He seems pretty serious about this so far.

Are any of Burrows Democrat buddies, the paid "Committee Vice-chairmen," or subcommittee chairmen among the cowards who fled to communist states?

This is not correct.

They could appeal to SCOTUS arguing the Texas Constitution violated the United States Constitution. That would be a losing effort in my opinion, but it is still an avenue available to them. (It's not really a standing issue.)

It all comes down to the dems subverting the will of the people. The citizens of Texas have elected the legislators to do their jobs. Their job is to represent their people and the State of Texas by actually doing their jobs. If they don't win on an issue that's the will of the voters.
The dems are pieces of *****

When fugitives from justice cross state lines, that's exactly when Feds should get involved.

Your job is not equivalent to a governing body.

I will repeat myself yet again - depriving a governing body of a quorum has been a legitimate form of dissent for as long as representative government has existed.

So has enforcing rules to require they attend quorum.

Yep, another option would be to copy what Democrats did in Oregon and pass a law stating that if they miss 10 or more legislative session days (or similar language) they can't run for re-election, or perhaps even state-wide office again, at least for a period of 10-20 years.

That was an inverse media mass-hysteria back when Oregon Republicans walked out over the gun grabbing etc. legislation the communists were insistent was critical.

And every day a few of them show up, they're only four seats short of a quorum now so you can keep mocking it all you want it's working.

It's not legitimate. It's gaming of the rules. If you don't do your job you're let go.

There are thousands of years of precedent demonstrating its legitimacy. In fact, Texans were doing it as far back as 1870.

You don't have to like it or agree with it, but that is historical fact.

Yes, Dems did, in fact, agree to the House Rules, so while they have the right to break quorum, they are also subject to the consequences of doing so in accordance with the House Rules.

I find it utterly unsurprising that democrats, as demonstrated on this thread and in the government in this case, are fully on board with gaming the system for their own benefit. It's very exemplifying.

Because Republicans have never gamed the system for their own benefit ... like by convening for the purpose of out-of-cycle redistricting to increase the number of Republican House districts because Trump is afraid of losing the House in 2026. I find it utterly unsurprising that Republicans, as demonstrated on this board, are fully on board with gaming the system for their own benefit.

Is there a law or rule that says re-districting can only happen every 10 years? If not, Rs aren't "gaming" anything. Breaking the law by breaking quorum isn't in the Republican playbook.

In response to Democrats doing it. Also, there is no set cycle for redistricting. It can be done any time a state chooses to do so. It is, as someone would say, legitimate.

As far back as May 22, 1856, the "world's greatest deliberative body" became a combat zone. In one of the most dramatic and deeply ominous moments in the Senate's entire history, a member of the House of Representatives entered the Senate Chamber and savagely beat a senator into unconsciousness.

There's another historical fact. Does it, too, bear repeating?
