lol. What does "narrowly tailored" mean? You can make that mean anything.
Irrelevant language.
This whole thing is a distraction at best the way the bill is written.
Well they have to go back and tell the House/Senate why they redacted what they redacted, and there would be FOIA requests if they keep hiding it beyond that. Its pretty obvious this issue isn't going to go away if they wait it out too, public opinion is low for the administration on how they handled this whole debacle.
"Within 15 days of completion of the release required under Section 2, the Attorney General shall submit to the House and Senate Committees on the Judiciary a report listing:
(1) All categories of records released and withheld.
(2) A summary of redactions made, including legal basis.
(3) A list of all government officials and politically exposed persons named or referenced in the released materials, with no redactions permitted under subsection (b)(1)."
Yes, but they are likely going to redact 95% of thousands of documents so this will get dragged out just like the JFK files. We and our kids will likely be dead before we get anything from this.
Could be, that depends on Trump/Bondi at this point to follow the law as intended.
The law, as written, gives them wide latitude to effectively redact everything. So how it was actually written doesn't match the intention and desires of most everyone on this thread.
Which is why you had everyone but 1 person vote for it. They all know they are protected by how it was written.
Theater.
Redact everything but also provide a satisfactory explanation to the public on what they redacted*
*And the reasons will be all the ones already written directly into the law.
And most everyone that is not MTG or Massie will pretend anger but privately say, "Whew.". And move on.
Guess we'll have to wait and see if the Trump DOJ does the right thing then won't we
If Trump's DOJ doesn't that doesn't mean the next Dems DOJ won't do the right thing.
The reality is, at this point, it's just a matter of time. It can be in the next three years or in the first few weeks of the next Dem administration, maybe even the next republican administration, who knows, but it's coming.
