This is such an old and tired argument.
Do they pull these out of the attic and blow the dust off?Quote:
Opponents of the bill argued that the bill would lead to racial profiling in minority communities. State Rep. Ramon Romero Jr., D-Fort Worth, spoke about the impact he believed it would have on his community.
"A young man may get pulled or may get stopped just simply for jogging and not carrying his ID, and I can say that it offends me because this has happened to my own son," Romero said.
My eldest step-son worked with me before going into the USAF. He's half-"black-hispanic" (dad) and half-white (mom), but is obviously mixed. We were coming back from a job I was doing in McAllen and I told him to make sure he brought his wallet as he often left home without it and I had been trying to convince him that, as an adult, he should ALWAYS carry his wallet/ID.
Well, we got stopped at the BP checkpoint, of course, and the hispanic BP agent asked me if I was a citizen and then looked at him and asked for ID....exactly like I joked with him about, prior...he was not happy..."Really!? **sigh***"....the agent just said "Nevermind, you gentlemen have a nice day!".
Nobody was harassed. Nobody was shot.
This dude's worry is unfounded, in general.
