Joni Taylor's Aggies earn No. 1 seed in WBIT, will host at Reed Arena
Hosting postseason hoops.
As one of the first four teams out of the NCAA Tournament, Texas A&M women’s basketball has earned an automatic bid into the Women's Basketball Invitation Tournament.
The Fightin’ Texas Aggies were announced as a No. 1 overall seed during Sunday’s WBIT Selection Show.
The Maroon & White will face McNeese State on Thursday in College Station.
The bid comes on the heels of A&M’s remarkable, late-season heater, with the Aggies winning five straight and six of their final seven to close SEC play.
They flourished in February, but it didn’t come without its share of jeopardy in January.
A&M lost five games by 20 or more in that month alone. Their postseason fate stared them in the face until the turnaround struck.
Heading into the SEC Tournament, the Aggies planned to surge and play their way into the NCAA Tournament, yet a scary injury derailed those dreams.
Just before the second half, Fatmata Janneh came down awkwardly and looked to be in excruciating pain with a knee injury. However, Joni Taylor shared Janneh just suffered a “bone bruise” and will be good to go for the postseason.
Led by an All-SEC selection, Ny’Ceara Pryor will be a force to be reckoned with in the WBIT as one of the best guards in the tournament.
As one of four No. 1 seeds in the 32-team field, the Aggies have a real shot to make a lot of noise in March.
