I am 61 years old and never knew anybody that stabbed someone else. I don't care the knife size. It's not a toenail clipper.

My sister stabbed my brother in the arm with a ballpoint pen when they were in junior high. Barely broke the skin. Does that count?

Court TV, apparently back with jury now.

Opening statements of sentencing waived.

KA mother on the stand, begging for mercy.

EDIT: Fox 4 is saying she will be their only witness.

None of his teachers nor coaches? I find that quite odd. Unless Anthony did have some disciplinary issues?

I seriously did not know Court TV was a comedy show.

Those guys are absolutely hilarious with their hot takes.
There is only one constant, one universal, it is the only real truth: causality. Action. Reaction. Cause and effect.

I'll take the over. A jury that quick to convict? Probably more than one are aware of how parole impacts length of sentence. My WAG is 35-45 years.

99 years is deserved. I am hoping they do at least 60 so this a-hole is behind bars for a guaranteed 30 years before eligible for parole.

Given this case, I doubt he stays out of trouble in prison. He should be gone forever

Agree, but regardless whether he gets a sentence of 99 years he will still be eligible for parole after 30 years, but if they do something stupid and give him 50 years, he could be out in 25. That's why I am hoping for a minimum of 60.

I hear a lady preaching the gospel outside in the live feed. May God bless her and use her. I'm proud of her for stepping up.

Its telling how his mom was his only witness. Perhaps all other adults knew he was a monster and couldn't in good conscious stick up for him.

Pure speculation.

If they give him 20 years he'll be paroled by his early 30s at the latest. No chance a jury this quick to convict is letting that happen.

I thought a lighter sentence was possible since he was so young.

But coming back so fast? I'll go with 40 years.

Miles confirmed it.

Mom only testified. 3 questions -- 2 from defense. Both sides rested.

Weird to say the least, but I guess Prosecution believes facts speak for themselves and have confidence jury will agree.

3.5 inch knife is still not a small knife

I was curious, so I measured my Kershaw EDC knife. It has a 3" blade and is 7" overall when opened. Just to give folks a sense of size.

I wouldn't call it a big knife.

A big knife is not necessary to kill someone with a heart wound. Heart is about an inch and a half from the chest wall in the front and about one inch from the left side wall.

Honestly surprised by the amount of publicity over this case, given the undisputed nature of most of the facts. He was always going to be found guilty of murder, there's just nothing else that could have happened here with the facts being what they are. The only things in dispute are irrelevant to the question of whether or not this was murder. Even in Karmelo's version of events, this was STILL murder.

Usually the big racial cases the media runs with are shrouded in a lot more doubt, at least initially, than this one. There's just nothing even remotely in doubt here.

id count on serving half. I want him in there until he is old and gray, so id give the max and he prolly gets out in 45.

It the defense essentially waving the white flag through this entire process is pretty revealing. This was just a hopeless case to try and defend. His attorney knows he's just at the mercy of the jury at this point.

In Texas you are eligible for parole after 30 years even if you have a max sentence of 99y in this case.

Yeah, and I think it also appears that they couldn't put anyone on the stand that could vouch for this guy OTHER than his mom. His dad is BSC and Shook/et.al. figured he'd hang the kid; no teachers/coaches/etc. probably agreed to testify or they were afraid what they'd admit under cross.

If I'm not mistaken, for violent felonies Texas parole eligibility is half time. So for example if he gets sentenced to 30 he'll be eligible for parole after 15. There may be a way to reduce that even further through education, but I'm not sure.

Would the victim impact statements come from family members during punishment phase? Or is it once everything is all said and done?
