Frankly I'm shocked anyone even looks at the price of eggs when they buy them. Who really cares if they are $5 or $10.

I have been buying the premium brown eggs. The ones that are free range and are packed in fancy cartons. They are the same price as the ones that were the white ones and were typical $2-$3 cheaper per doz then the brown eggs.

True, but any good Mexican worth their salt is buying eggs by the tonnage right now so they can have their eggs ready for their kids to hunt and then crack over everyone's heads.

People on a budget and not as well off as you.
I'm not on a budget, and I haven't bought eggs in 3+ months. **** if I'm paying more than $3 a dozen. I'll wait.

Maybe get rid of free range chickens that eat bird poop that has the virus, so you don't have to kill millions of chickens to stop the spread?
So put *all* the chickens in torture camps instead? I'm not an animal rights nut, but the living conditions of egg factory chickens are pretty appalling.

Cage Free seems the safest way to raise them. Free Range is not.

Am I the only one who never saw outrageous egg prices? I just bought an 18-pack for $5 last weekend at Costco.

I never saw them. But I don't look at the price when I buy eggs. If I need them I need them.

I'd assume that eggs are regional product. In Texas the bird flu hasn't been very bad. Not sure they've had to kill the flocks like other states

I had a friend from Alaska visit over Christmas. He was shocked at how expensive eggs were in Texas. That should tell you something.

Same. I maybe spend $10-15 a month on eggs. It's just another distraction to the public in my personal opinion.

It doesn't. I just know at least in east Texas the bird flu has been isolated

Supply meets demand. Prices rise, demand falls as some people decide they can live without. Then suppliers find offshore sources, supply rises again, prices fall.

This is exactly what happened. On 2/26, USDA announced they were increasing imports on eggs. And since price is forward-looking, prices fell due to anticipation of a supply increase.

Bird flu eradicates hens, egg prices go up, less people eat eggs, more uneaten eggs hatch, more hens laying eggs, prices go down.

I think part of the issue with egg prices as a focus is (a) Dems managed to make the prices spike just before/as Trump was taking the oath of office, and (b) it also hit the coastal elite/communist states harder, because of course they went full covid (over-react). I traded notes with a buddy outside of beautiful Los Angeles last week, and this was the price at the local store there still;

At the time, I checked the wal mart app and a similar 18 pack was 5.99. My guess is they have to be trucked further because new scum had them kill every chicken in the state or something, and they probably restricted bringing more non-California special organic super environmentally friendly fed chickens in to replace them, pending certification by the California chicken bureau, or something like that. But I am certain that our prices have come down a lot faster than in Dem-cesspools, anyway.

A little quick for that…….. It takes the better part of 6 months for a chick to hatch (1/2 of them become cat food) and start laying

Nevermind that the eggs we eat aren't fertilized, so "uneaten eggs" wouldn't hatch new hens. Especially if they're refrigerated.

And yes, depending on breed they start laying 4-6 months.

I make a two omlettes out of three large eggs normally. Today I got hers to fold over and I sacrificially took the one that was open on top. I asked my wife if eggs were smaller and she said yes. Still good eating! Guess those Banty' chickens got it going!
