This isn't a game of chicken on the play ground. A real hero/leader would make difficult decisions and work aggressively to come to a settlement instead of prolonging the war.

But Zelensky knows, once the war ends so does his celebrity.

Trump hates disrespect but also doesn't hold lasting grudges. If Zelensky will play ball and give Trump a political win, Trump will be cordial and friendly AND will play ball on security also.

All Zelensky had to do is play along and he would get much greater contributions to Ukrainian security, and more pressure on Russia to settle. He just can't bring himself to have to admit them at Ukraine will lose territory from 2014 in a deal.

Has the laundering or misuse of aid been confirmed anywhere? Not necessarily disputing this but I haven't seen any reporting on this that passes the sniff test.

Having been through a few very tense mediations and negotations....for those saying how this is a bad look, imbecilic, immature, show...whatever you want to call it. This is how big things happen.

Good mediators make sure everyone leaves the room upset and uncomfortable - that is how you know the middle ground was located.

What Zelensky is attempting to do is prove the mediator wrong - that rarely happens and only serves to diminish his own position.
