Outside of the Opinion page and straight biz news, the WSJ has become just another liberal rag!

Dems can't block any of the nominations without 4 Republican's help. Case in point, Hegseth.

If she performs like the other nominees, she will get confirmed. Kash.

But it will be must see TV (for those interested, which should include most f16 posters). Dems are going to scatter fire anything and everything out there.

If she stumbles, it is because she had enough and spouts off. I further understand she is highly likely NOT to do such a thing.

It is apparent by the terrible accident last night that Trump needs his cabinet in place - now.

I wish Tulsi Gabbard's confirmation depended on the Filipino vote.

According to the National WWII Museum, Filipino combined civilian and military WWII deaths were between 500,000 and 1,000,000: https://www.nationalww2museum.org/students-teachers/student-resources/research-starters/research-starters-worldwide-deaths-world-war

Tulsi Gabbard sponsored the House Bill to award Congressional Gold Medal to Filipino World War II Vets (see below). I don't know; maybe times of changed since I graduated from A&M, but back when I was there we would have referred to what Tulsi did for the Filipino World War II Vets as "Good Bull".

A bill that would honor the more than 260,000 Filipino and Filipino-American veterans of World War II is one step closer to becoming law.

The Filipino Veterans of World War II Congressional Gold Medal Act of 2015 passed the House of Representatives on Nov. 30 following remarks by the bill's sponsor Rep. Tulsi Gabbard (D-Hawaii) and several co-sponsors, including Reps. Judy Chu (D-Calif.), Joe Heck (R-Nevada), Mike Honda (D-Calif.), and Colleen Hanabusa (D-Hawaii). The bill had previously passed the Senate in July. It will now head to the desk of President Barack Obama.

"Today is truly a great day, a significant seminal period in American history second only to the liberation of the Philippines and surrender of the Japanese Imperial Forces on August 15, 1945," retired Maj. Gen. Antonio Taguba, chairman of the Filipino Veterans Recognition and Education Project, said in a statement. "Now we can tell our veterans with pride in our hearts that this grateful nation has, at last, granted them recognition for the selfless sacrifice they endured in war, and restored their dignity and honor in service to their nation."

"For months, we have said that time is running out to recognize Filipino World War II veterans for their brave service," Sen. Mazie Hirono, who introduced the companion Senate bill, said in a statement. "Today's House passage is the culmination of decades of work by these veterans and their families to recognize their key role in the Allied victory, and their decades-long fight for benefits."

The medal would recognize the soldiers who responded to President Franklin D. Roosevelt's call-to-duty and fought under the United States flag during World War II. Those soldiers were promised military benefits, but that offer was retracted by the Rescission Act of 1946.

In 2009, Obama signed legislation that gave these veterans a one-time lump sum payment $15,000 if they were U.S. citizens and $9,000 if they still lived in the Philippines.

Hirono worked with Gabbard on the Congressional Gold Medal proposal, which they introduced in the House and Senate in 2015.

In a press release when the House vote was announced, Gabbard praised the many veterans who were denied the military benefits that were promised to them for their service in World War II, calling the recognition "long-overdue." An estimated 18,000 of the more than 200,000 Filipino veterans are alive today, according to Gabbard's office.

"These loyal and courageous soldiers suffered, fought, and gave up their lives alongside their American counterparts throughout the war, and have waited decades for their service to be recognized," she said. "They cannot afford to wait any longer. It has been an honor to personally get to know some of these veterans and their families, and to hear them humbly tell their courageous stories of service."

Than put them on speed dial and just start working. I swear, I would just have them closely consult what had in mind if that is what it took and order myself.

Is there a policy that prevents the nominated cabinet member from being the "active" cabinet member? Does it have to be an undersecretary that has already been confirmed that can serve in the "active" role?

But I think its clear form Duffy and Hegseth being out there today that he has had them close by since nominating them.

The issue is NOT that Trump needs someone to provide advice

it is that you need an actual SECRETARY to issue all of the orders to their Department for them to be carried out.

So does the "acting" secretary have no ability to issue orders?

The Acting Secretary would be someone from the Deep State.

so you have to give them orders from the White House- to then have them order their subordinates to conduct the action.

how did that turn out in the Trump 45 Administration?
BMX Bandit
How long do you want to ignore this user?
by law, and affirmed 7-2 by SCOTUS, the person nominated for a cabinet position can't serve as "Acting" secretary.

Can see that, but still don't see why its not an option of sorts. In fact, a given President could "annex" aspect of that particular position to his own role as President. Roosevelt's familiarity with naval matters made him far more hands on in that regard then was in others. SecNav could have been a cipher and alot would still have turned out similar.

Susan Collins (Maine)
Lisa Murkowski (Alaska)
Mitch McConnell (Kentucky)
John Cornyn (Texas)
Todd Young (Indiana)
Mike Rounds (South Dakota)
John Curtis (Utah)

None are a surprise.

And before anyone yells about primarying them, only 2 are up in 2026 and another not running.

Collins is the best we'll ever see out of Maine. Anyone else from there will be a Democrat. Replacing her is a fools' errand. Useful to ensure control of the Senate and that's it.

Murkowski needs to go, but she'll game the rank choice voting like always. Only way to get rid of her is to elect the Democrat for a term. Up for election in 2028.

McConnell is done in 2026.

Cornyn needs to go; will be interesting to see if anyone can successfully primary him in 2026.

Young is a ??? since Indiana is a red state, but incumbents are hard to unseat, especially Senate ones. Would take a well known and popular candidate to unseat him. Up for election in 2028.

Curtis is a Romney clone, but just got elected and won't be up until 2030. No one will remember or care by that point.

Truly, in 2026, far better to try to pick off Ossoff in Georgia, the open seat in Michigan, Shaheen in New Hampshire, and get rid of Cornyn. If Collins runs, it is not worth tossing away the seat for "revenge."

If the Republicans look to be extremely strong in 2026, they could try to pick off New Mexico, Minnesota, and Virginia, but none are overly likely.
"If you will not fight for right when you can easily win without blood shed; if you will not fight when your victory is sure and not too costly; you may come to the moment when you will have to fight with all the odds against you and only a precarious chance of survival. There may even be a worse case. You may have to fight when there is no hope of victory, because it is better to perish than to live as slaves." - Sir Winston Churchill
