There was a time where we took pride in the fact that people aspired to move to the US for the American Dream.

The concept that the US was homogenous in the 1950s just because most had some sort of white lineage to a European country is a pretty broad use of the term.

1. Europeans have a shared background due to the value systems (which were often ignored by European leaders) promoted by the Church. So they were able to assimilate relatively easily in America which also was founded on those same value systems.
