As a Catholic, I don't believe in the death penalty despite my human instinct to want to see these criminals fry. It is a tough issue for me to wrangle with because every human soul should be given the chance for redemption. Because of this, I am okay with a relatively long imprisonment (within reason) before they get the chair. This should be opportunity for them to get right with God. An immediate execution would hinder this, and I don't think God is cool with that. That's my own personal rationalization and not intended to represent Church doctrine.Quote:
Then again, I'm of the opinion that the person sentenced to death row should be on death row for as long as it takes to set up the electric chair. So, the person's time on death row should last all of a few minutes.
