Hip fracture is often a symptom of pre-existing issues rather than the cause of declining health. Many hip fractures occur spontaneously and are the cause of the fall & not the other way around. Repair of the fracture often has associated cerebral micro-embolisms from the exposed bone marrow fat that lead to mental cognition issues. Add to that the atrophy/circulation issues above and the fact that an 84 yo old patient is already on the wrong side of time before the fracture. She might do just fine, but odds are that she will face a significant decline from this.Quote:

I screwed up my back in 2019 and spent 2 months in bed and agony/pain. It is Amazing how quickly you lose muscle mass and inwas in my early 40s.
If you're in your 80s, the effects have to be much worse. Issues with circulation etc
