Is there a roll call so we can see who is voting for whom?

So is this correct?:

They needed 2/3rds of the vote for the first 2 ballots. Neither side got it, but Cook was ahead. Now they would only need 3/5ths, and the RINOs left to prevent a quorum?

Which is what the Dems did several years ago for those that recall. Some of them literally fled the state to prevent a vote.

And now the RINOs are doing it.

Are the GOP obligated to vote for Cook when the session actually starts now? Or is it possible for Burrows to make a deal with democrats and steal it?

Based on the screenshot on the last page, it looks like they are required to vote for Cook? I'm not sure. I just want a true school choice bill. No income cap.

So only 62 are pledged to vote for Cook? That means 25 republicans are not. And obviously the 63 democrats are not. So it seems to me that Burrows could easily do the Phelan thing and join with the democrats and appoint himself.

Am I wrong?

ALL Caucus members are bound to support the nominee.

Quote:

  • Binding Agreement: In recent sessions, the Texas House Republican Caucus has implemented a rule that binds all caucus members to support the caucus-chosen nominee during the official House vote for Speaker. This agreement is intended to prevent division within the party and ensure a united front during the Speaker election.

Enforcement of the rules is another matter, so we shall see on Jan. 14th.

Well I have no idea how binding the agreement will be. The Dems have been released to vote for anyone but Cook. Burrows has a press conference that should be starting now. I don't have a link, I'm looking. More than enough traitorous GOP and Dems to vote for Burrows over Cook though.3

Prior to this year, I haven't paid attention to local politics. Is this the same way that Phelan got the speakership? Or did he at least win the GOP caucus first?

There is nothing bi-partisan about working with a Democrat. It's a guaranteed outcome of taking the leftist viewpoint.

They are turncoats if they vote with him and should be treated as such when it comes to primary funding from the party. You break the caucus rules, you get no money next election should be the penalty.

I'm pretty sure Burrows (aka Dade Phelan 2.0) would chose where a bunch of that money goes.

If so, the party needs to change that. Anybody choosing to break caucus rules to work with democrats and subvert the caucus' elected choice for speaker should not receive any party money.

A lot of those "Republicans" are really Democrats who just run in the GOP primary because they'd never win the general as a Democrat.
"If you will not fight for right when you can easily win without blood shed; if you will not fight when your victory is sure and not too costly; you may come to the moment when you will have to fight with all the odds against you and only a precarious chance of survival. There may even be a worse case. You may have to fight when there is no hope of victory, because it is better to perish than to live as slaves." - Sir Winston Churchill

The SREC just passed a resolution considering a vote for anyone but Cook a censurable act. They will also spend funds to educate voters on the resolution in the congressman's district, and encourage the Party not to accept the application to the Primary for 24 months after said vote.

Just Democrats gaming the system.

We need closed primaries and candidates cannot run in the primary unless party members for at least 5 years or longer.
