Maybe we can just take Alberta and let Canada keep the rest.
BC, and Saskatchewan are still overwhelmingly conservative. They've got first nations that are probably more liberal.
It's Ontario, and especially Quebec that rule the whole place... Those two are the equivalent to our coastal California and NYC
BC is similar to Washington, controlled by the uber liberals in Vancouver even if much of the rest of the Province is conservative. Alberta and Saskatchewan are conservative but between them they have about 6 million people and Canada has 40 million, about half of which live near Toronto. Ontario runs that country because it is a Parliamentary system and to an extent Quebec which extorts whomever is in power to make sure they get special treatment to act independently and French (essentially they make their own rules and get lots of money from everyone else then vote with whomever is in power because they don't care what the rest of Canada is dealing with). It's hard for most to comprehend how much space they have with so little population as so many people live in a few metros and most of the country is just empty.
Alberta and Saskatchewan are the jewels though because that is where all the natural resources are as well, they are very similar to Texans with a funny accent. They also have Lake Louise and the most beautiful parts of the country. Would take those two Provinces in a heartbeat. As Canada has aged they are basically being used to fund the rest of the country with their natural resources even though the politics in those areas are very different than Ontario and certainly Quebec. They should have seceded decades ago as they get very little benefit out of the arrangement and would be very wealthy and prosperous if they were an independent country or part of the US.
As a sidenote, I'll never forget years ago watching the election with my Canadian neighbor who had the CBC. From the time the polls closed to virtually all the votes being counted and a complete change in government (at that time from Liberal to Conservative) was less than 2 hours. Really makes you see just how messed up our voting is here.
