All you DeSantis supporters should give the newly elected VP a little time before campaigning against him.

There will time enough for that down the road.

It's never good to let a leftist like Kidd be put on the bench!

However, we still have a Senate Minority leader, Mitch McConnell, that should have insured the Kidd nomination would have been fought over vehemently....

McConnell is the real turd in the punch bowl
He isn't being campaigned against. Between this and claiming that JD was singled out, you're being overly defensive.

Au Contraire,

It is the DeSantis supporters that are being overly defensive and attacking Vance on this thread.

As the incoming VP you would think he could rally the GOP to freaking show up. At the very least, it would shine a spotlight on the situation.

Bad JD.
correct!

and actually it IS more important to stop leftist appellate judges from being installed-

than JD sitting in on a job interview when HE IS NOT THE ONE HIRING!

Umm, so are you saying JD wasn't one of the 5 that dropped the ball here? Not sure why there is even a discussion. It's easy to see where early celebration and not keeping an eye on the ball is having a negative result that is unnecessary. Take the L and learn from it so it doesn't happen again... it's that easy.

Trump and Elon both put out essentially matching posts to DeSantis. You can blame this on DeSantis is you want but this was just a mistake by Vance. Nothing huge but a mistake. Sorry but when Trump put out that post it destroyed your argument that this is somehow bad DeSantis or that his supporters are wrong for noticing what all of them are posting. By your logic Trump "attacked" Vance.

He made a mistake. Pointing that out isn't an attack. JD is a big boy, he will be fine as long as he learns from mistakes.

To read anything in this thread as an attack is pretty wild.

I don't think it's too weird to want to have the GOP eyes on the positions that are life-time appointments, especially in the states of FL and GA, one of which has historically, until recently, been a swing state and the other that apparently has become a swing state.

Likely the outcome would have been the same - but the GOP still needs everyone to pull their weight and do their job to keep things moving in the right direction.

I never said DeSantis was bad or blaming anything on him, or that Trump was bad in his post.

I simply said all you DeSantis supporters were unusually attacking Vance while ignoring the other 4 non-voters and not acknowledging the fact that Senate Minority leader seemed indifferent to whipping enough votes to shooting down this nominee!

Vance wasn't the only one that didn't do his duty, there were others equally responsible for not doing their duty.

But, there seems to be a concentrated effort by you and others to attack Vance on this thread. Maybe that was your original intent.

You just engaged in weak ad hominem attacks because you have nothing better to offer. Take a clue from JD and realize that it's time to give up while you're behind.

Vance was an excellent choice for VP, but no one is above criticism. This isn't a cult.

Ok, so what are we criticizing Vance for….if it's for posting an idiotic comment on X, then, I agree. It was stupid. If we are criticizing him for not voting, then that's ok too.
My point is….he wasn't the only GOP senator to miss the vote. They all should be called out accordingly….in addition to the feckless Senate Minority Leader.
Calling Vance out alone on this thread is suspect.

Do you not understand Vance is the one who outed himself as one of the 5 who didn't vote before anyone else let it be known?

Yes, all 5 deserve criticism, but when you make a statement of defense to a general statement made by some else who didn't mention you while being elevated to a higher level of leadership and visibility, you're going to receive most of the criticism and attention. It's just how things work.

Again, I don't think there is any attacks in this thread. You're making this into something bigger than it is. All the thread is for is to comment the hope that JD Vance, who is now much more nationally visible, has learned from a particular situation and continues to have his eye on the ball to help keep things moving in the right direction.

Were the other 4 on the attack to defend their own part in the screwup? I honestly don't know, but JD did. I think he realized he was in the wrong, so he deleted his own kneejerk post.

I know Braun was elected Governor, so he may not have even been within 500 miles of DC, but I assume JD was in town and could have made an effort.

BS. Vance stepped in it with his tweeted knee-jerk response to being called out - not as an individual, but as a group that missed an opportunity.

It's his response (that WAS a personal attack on Grace Chong) that got him personally called out.

FYI, a call out is not an attack. It's accountability and demand for the excellence we voted for.

I'm glad Vance is going to be VP, but he needs to do his job until the new session starts (which is January 3 or something like that). Once the new session starts, he will be free to do as he wants because Democrats won't be in the majority anymore, even though Trump and Vance will not be sworn in until January 20.
Once the new session starts, he will be doing a job that isn't worth a bucket of warm spit. At least according to the late great "Cactus Jack" Garner.

I actually was clear that there were 5 Senators involved and repeated it several times including the OP. The real mistake by Vance was the post he deleted which was dumb. Once again not fatal but just an unforced error he needs to learn from and he should. It is an example of inexperience. He's a smart guy and will figure it out.

I have also said repeatedly I see Vance as a part of the GOP leadership long term. I don't see him as the 100% must be Presidential candidate in '28 but he's the likely favorite and we could do worse.

So should we just not point out what happened or something? Or do we need to find some other way to make sure that Vance is defended for doing something that he almost certainly would agree was dumb?

Manchin literally turned Independent and is a lame duck, the Dems have zero leverage on him. If anything he has all the incentive in the world to vote against the guy like he did.

Lots of benefits to forcing a tie vote btw. Best case for the Dems is they have to have everyone scramble and waste a lot of time on this which limits the amount of damage they can do. They would also end up with a great ad for the GOP to reinforce any Dem who voted for this lunatic that they were the deciding vote. Then of course there was the longshot chance they actually denied her with a tie and the VP away which would have caused even more problems for the Dems.

Exploit every opportunity, give them nothing.

The Senate is managed theater. Every vote that happens is negotiated, including the absences. The reason Kamala wasn't there is because a bunch of Republicans also weren't going to be there.

It absolutely didn't matter. Remember when Murkowski abstained from voting against Kavanaugh because a Republican was missing? It isn't like the House. Senators are a tight knit bunch regardless of party.

Don't they just have to have a quorum which is a majority of the Senate?

If they needed everyone to be there to vote, then it would be real easy for the opposing party to make sure that a vote doesn't happen.

I may be wrong, but aren't most transition teams concentrated in Washington DC? If the transition work was centered on Washington DC, any Representatives and Senators involved could go their respective chambers to handle their House or Senate business.

Pretty sure confirmation votes on Trump nominees won't happen until the new senate is seated/sworn in (after Jan 6?). And there will be confirmation hearings before any votes happen. I do think a quorum only is needed, not a majority of all seated senators in order for a confirmation.
