Nobody has to disprove anything.
It's innocent until proven otherwise and I guess the DOJ didn't like their case.

I would expect they would have brought it for harassment purposes if there had been a big enough fish to embarrass further or they could have gotten a democrat jury.

Someone asked if it was "proven false."

My comment was the correct answer to that. Nothing was ever proven either way. It is simply an accusation someone made.
"If you will not fight for right when you can easily win without blood shed; if you will not fight when your victory is sure and not too costly; you may come to the moment when you will have to fight with all the odds against you and only a precarious chance of survival. There may even be a worse case. You may have to fight when there is no hope of victory, because it is better to perish than to live as slaves." - Sir Winston Churchill

I don't like the Gaetz nomination. I think there are far better options which would be more effective and be much easier to confirm. I also don't like the idea of responding to a weaponozed DOJ with an equally weaponized DOJ on the other side. I'd like to be able to trust the DOJ to enforce the law without extreme levels of partisanship.

Having said all that, I do think it's a persuasive argument that a Dem-weaponized DOJ didn't pursue charges against Gaetz. If there was really anything there, it seems very likely they would have pursued it. They've pursued plenty of things under Obama and Biden which didn't have a whole lot of substance to them.

There are plenty of potential candidates for AG that will "drain the swamp" if you will and that don't have the kind of baggage that Gaetz has.

With all due respect to the incoming Trump administration, in the long run, this nomination going down in flames would be a blessing in disguise for them.

Is it weaponized if DOJ under Trump goes after politicians on the other side 9and some GOP) that have actually conspired, prepetrated hoaxes, and engages in outright election interference? I would simply call that justice. Going after people who have earned it.

MAGA is riding high right now. As if on queue, the professional political class has to start etching some *****s in the armor. Gaetz is an easy target. Agree with others that he must be pretty clean in this incident if the gestapo DOJ didn't file charges over the incident.

Just don't be selective in prosecution. Go after everyone who's broken the law equally, and don't pick and choose which laws to enforce based on who's more likely to have broken them.

So, this is after a years long investigation of Gaetz by the DOJ looking into alleged sex trafficking, drug use, and alleged sex with a minor, a case that was closed with no charges filed. Also of note, the investigation's lead witness is now serving an 11 year jail sentence for sex trafficking and for lying about his political opponent's own sexual misconduct with a minor. Am I getting this right? If the case has already been investigated and closed with zero charges filed, why is it coming back up? Is it because he's a Republican appointed by Trump and does not toe the party line? Is it all political pandering? If there's information that proves he is guilty beyond a reasonable doubt, then get his ass out of there. Until then, fall back on the previously uncovered evidence and decision versus opening this up as a political stunt. I'm so damn tired of these politicians with nothing better to do than cause ****ing trouble, time to clean house and take out all the trash, that place is a damn circus.
Conspiracies are the norm, not the exception.

... but then all the sudden, you're in the public eye and about to get promoted into a very high-visibility office position such as a President's Cabinet...

It is Trump's choice to make. He has his mandate and he is choosing the generals he wants in battlefield. My guess is that he has given this a lot of thought and has a plan in place.

As to the veracity of the allegations, just remember golden showers, pee tapes, Russiagate, Hunter's laptop, false quid pro quo, blah, blah, blah. This is how the left operates.

Make devastating false allegations and then use the press to stir up the public enough to kill momentum, then watch the weak-knee Republicans take the bait and fold.

I refuse to believe one thing the Democrats or legacy media report regarding Republicans without irrefutable proof.

We are in a war with the left. Republicans better see this for what it is and start using their brains and fighting back.

They are not spreading a lie.

They are reporting that a woman accused Gaetz during testimony to the House Ethics Committee.

Unless that testimony never happened, what they are reporting is not a lie.

It's the "Jim Comey Golden Shower Security Briefing" maneuver. Make an unfounded allegation in a setting that is a matter of official government record and it is made newsworthy. The FBI is always in the picture when this type of bull**** is sprayed.

You don't have to believe the sex with a minor story in order to conclude that Gaetz is a poor choice for AG. He doesn't have the legal or administrative experience (you would like for a candidate to have both, but one will do in a pinch), and he's pissed off enough members of his own party that he would be a liability for anything that requires Congressional approval.

So, why spend a bunch of political capital fighting these sleaze allegations when the guy is a poor choice to begin with?

I've thought the same Gipper.

And while Gaetz is getting all of the attention and heat, President Trump can do whatever he wants with the rest of his nominations with little resistance.

If Gaetz makes it through, great.
If not, there are plenty of other great candidates, and while the Dems and their still-lapdog MSM are paying attention to the right hand, the left hand is free to do whatever they want.

DOJ has recorded testimony from a jailhouse informant who is in prison with that guy who allegedly hooked Gaetz up with dates via the escort service claiming he admitted to fabricating the story about one of the girls being underage at the time and that the girl was being paid to assist with testimony. He said this would help him with his sentence. So the witnesses here against Gaetz are a criminal currently doing in time in prison and a porn star/ only fans model, both with motives to lie and informant supporting that they lied. And even Biden's DOJ wouldn't pursue charges.

What's crazy to me is all the pearl clutching about Gaetz being some kind of monster - all coming from supporters of the party that supports MAPs, drag story hours for kids, porn in public elementary school libraries, gender and sexuality confusion ideology in public elementary school education, dudes in my daughter's locker room, castration and mutilation of minors, butt secs in the senate chamber conference rooms, and most of all - the party in which 81 million voted in full support of proliferating the child and sex trafficking industry with the wide open border they apparently wanted so badly.
