Don't disagree.

But there is a difference between ridicule and making somebody a social pariah because of stupid things they say or believe, and actively doing everything possible - including using the legal system in an insinuous and evil way - to financially ruin somebody simply because you didn't like something they said.

Hmmmm - that's not really accurate.

Quote:

The shooting had barely happened when Jones began pushing the falsehood that it was a hoax. Victims' families who sued Jones said they were subjected to years of torment, threats and abuse by people who believed the lies told on his show. One father said conspiracy theorists urinated on his 7-year-old son's grave and threatened to dig up the coffin.

Alex Jones is one of the worst people in the world and deserves all the bad fortune that comes down upon him.
I"m assuming you apply this logic equally across the board then. So you feel that those that accused Trump of all of the things that turned out to be false in the fake dossier about him should be liable for billion dollar judgements as well.

What about those that promoted the BLM protests, or refused to do anything to stop them while people's livelyhoods and businesses were burned to the ground?

What about all of those judges in Houston that have let felons out on low or PR bonds and those felons have gone off to murder others while they are out on bond waiting for a trial?

What about all of the Jan 6 people that the government has absolutely ruined the lives of over absolutely nothing?

Or is it simply because you just don't like this guy in particular, so you think obscene judgements against him are OK for him, but not others who have done far worse?

I will admit that, at the time, I remember being completely shocked by Robbie Parker's jovial demeanor as he approached the podium. His little girl was just mowed down by a crazed gunman that day or the day before. I get that everyone grieves differently, but that just seemed like a very bizarre response. I was much younger and more naive at the time and when the "crisis actors" rumors started floating around I did wonder for a brief period if there could be any legitimacy to it. Then, after doing a little digging, realized it was completely bogus.

Still to this day, as a girl dad, it does not compute. But everyone is different...maybe he was just ini total shock and not in control of his emotions. Maybe he was heavily medicated...who knows.

My main point was that, even the craziest stuff he believes...and keep in mind, he is on the absolute fringe of our party...it is not nearly as crazy as the stuff your entire party believes, pushes, advocates for...and actually implements policy based off of.

You'll just accuse me of "whataboutism" and completely ignore the fact that your mainstream is more crazy than our fringe. Tampons in boys bathrooms, men showering with girls after volleyball games, men getting pregnant, gay cartoon p0rn books in k-5 schools LOLOLOL...yall NUTS

Few people are defending him.

Most are defending the fact that you should not be punitively damanged in the manner he was simply because you exercised your right to express an opinion, which is what he did.

It was a dumb opinion, but not to the tune of $1.5 billion in damages levied against him.

I mean, I see things espoused on this site that are every bit as dumb as what he said. While I firmly believe in public ridicule and pointing out stupidity, I don't think any of the libtard idiotic opinions posted here are deserving of that person being fined $1, much less an obscene amount that was little more than a leftist court trying to control what can and cannot be said by a person they disagreed with. As pointed out earlier, The View says far more damaging and stupid things every single day, but I don't see anybody clamoring for them to be punished financially for it. Off the air? Sure, but not fined by a court.

The simple truth is that Alex Jones has been scapegoated for all of the school shootings that have happened here dating back 20 years where the perpetrators wound up killing themselves and avoiding being prosecuted.

It is the ultimate emotion of helplessness and guilt for adults - mostly parents - to think that they can't protect their children in a setting that is supposed to be safe. They/We want someone to blame, and he became a very easy target for it.

He continues to have freedom of speech and I don't think he should have been liable for the actions of people listening to him on the radio. The people doing the harassing should have been jailed, fined and/or had their own wages garnished, along with prison time for violating restraining orders. If this had happened in the South, it never would have escalated, because the first time one of those nut jobs showed up at some victim's door demanding to see the kids or calling them actors, they would have gotten their heads blown off.

But I also think Alex Jones decided he was above the law, and that has him where he is today. Blatantly ignoring legal obligations and ignoring directives from a judge is about the dumbest thing you can do. What judge is going to not crush you when you act like the justice system doesn't apply to you?

Agreed in most part - but even if you flip off the judge a "justice" system shouldn't crush you. Incompetence or arrogance to the court should result in a summary judgement that's marginally harsher than an outright loss. The fact they were able to launder this up to such an obscene penalty should be concerning to all Americans regardless of their feelings about Jones.

It seems that he once postulated that the dad of a Sandy Hook victim looked like a crisis actor on his podcast about a decade ago, so he got a BILLION dollar judgement against him. A horrible thing to say, sure, but a BILLION dollars? He's bankrupt and lost his business now. Communists who absolutely HATE free speech think it's funny and just. They laugh. They revel in another's suffering. They say everyone wins when free speech is shut down and people are ruined for speech they don't like. I guess that's what ignorant people think when they refuse to fathom the possibility of themselves being destroyed one day if someone doesn't like something they say.
Hypothetical:

You lose a child in a school shooting. A radio talk show host goes on a daily rant about how you're full of **** and the whole thing is fake and you really didn't lose your kid. He does this over and over and over and over again, and eventually his followers start showing up outside your house echoing the sentiment that the whole thing is fake. They don't leave, and their numbers increase to the point where you've got to move to get away from them. Then they find your new residence and you've got to move again, because they believe you're full of **** and they are gonna be outside your home daily proclaiming that you're full of **** and that the death of your child never happened.

Hypothetically, all of this happens to you. In reality, it did happen to the Sandy Hook parents.

Do you give a **** about Alex Jones' free speech at this point?
Hypothetical: if a deranged podcast listener showed up at my house, I'd call the police and probably not seek a billion dollars from the podcaster.
You'd think differently if it went on for months on end and the podcaster wouldn't shut the **** up about it.

And the podcaster didn't actually believe it and was only saying it to make money.

Flipping off the judge is fine with me.
I once saw an inmate spit in the judge's face and try to bite his own lawyer in a court room. His sentence didn't change, although I can't imagine those first few days in the slammer were pleasant.
Jones refused to take part in the system designed for him to have the chance to defend himself. To me, it's just like not voting and then complaining about what the new president does. You had your chance to say your piece and instead did nothing. Now you get what you get.

Again - it's not the summary judgement that is egregious (although it's worth a deeper dive into discovery they claim he failed to comply with) - it's that the penalty clearly sought destruction rather than a proportional justice.

Terrain denial.

None of the clapping seals have actually listened to Jones: they've formed strong emotional options off of the MSM portrayal and their selective clips.

The truth is Jones primarily highlights things the media publishes but spun in the opposite direction. Watch him with Rogan and you'll see nearly everything he rants and screams about is based on MSM reported events.

Is he my cup of tea? No. He has a highly emotional delivery that I can't take in large doses. But if he were 100% crazy he wouldn't be a threat the left is invested in destroying. He has a following because he's actually right 90%+ of the time. He's known for being terribly wrong in one very unwise story, but he's far less dangerous or dishonest than The View.

I declare this as fact and I've never seen this show outside of clips on Twitter and the one JRE episode I watched.

He's no more out there than pretty much all of MSM who lies every day about pretty much everything.
