DEI is out the window.

The Joint Chiefs will be warriors not politicians.

Combat standards won't be lowered to accommodate women.

Meritocracy will rule.

It's all in his book The War on Warriors - Behind the betrayal of the men who keep us free

There are lots of people in the Pentagon ****ting in their pants rights now.

Serious question as I don't know. Does he have power to fire the generals or where does he power actually lie?

As a 22 year veteran and current active duty member, I don't know how I feel about this. Accountability is important but really don't like the idea of Generals making risk averse decisions in fear of being fired.

There is a difference in being risk averse in combat and risk averse in order to keep your woke social "credit score" high.

Yea I feel this one is a little out of left field.

A home run in Leftfield equals just as much as right field or centerfield

Context and info on this guy?

Handsome and a ladies man but….

He actually loves America

I mean that's great and all, but can we have some more qualifications for a guy that controls the military 24/7.

21 year military officer, served in combat, infantry, double bronze star

Cool…he survived.

Chris Miller, Wilkie, Bridge Colby…all VASTLY more qualified…AND confirmable.

There's a real chance Hegseth bows out before the process even starts.

Yeah, that's not happening with this public announcement. Cry somewhere else.

Ok, this is the kind of context I was looking for, i.e. why we like him.

Trump's first cabinet was stocked full of relatively experienced and capable people, the problem was that they didn't necessarily execute Trump's vision 100% and earned his ire.

It seems like Trump is stocking up on people he believes will stay loyal to him no matter what (maybe not Rubio though). The problem he might run into though, do they have the experience and the DC grease to get things done and quickly?

IMO Sec Defense needs to be someone with significant leadership and policy experience. He doesn't have it. Might have been a better fit for the VA.

Looks like you have very little military history knowledge. US Generals have been fired throught the existence of the US for making bad decisions.

****, look at Lincoln and how many Generals he went through during the Civil War.

George Washington wasn't fired, but one of his first commands was a massacre.

They say it apparently affected him the rest of his life.

For those of you unfamiliar with military medals, the bronze star is awarded for heroism in a combat zone.

Pete has 2 of them.

Not so fast my friend. This is not a post to disqualify Pete, I love the pick, but I had a first sergeant get a bronze star for never leaving the wire but once on a convoy he fell asleep during. Lots of first sergeants and CO's were getting bronze stars simply for existing when our OIF II deployment was ending while the Joe's got ARCOMS for doing all the work.

I've never worn the uniform...

But what I've heard from those that have is that from Lt Colonel (or other branch equivalent) officers are increasingly politicians as they are command tacticians and leaders. By the time they've got Stars on their collars or shoulder boards they're full fledge politicians.

If a civilian can be Sec Def so can a Major.
