He's currently a Minnesota national guardsman. Unlike Walz he actually saw combat in Iraq and earned a combat infantry badge. Also twice awarded the bronze star.

21 year military officer, served in combat, infantry, double bronze star

For those of you unfamiliar with military medals, the bronze star is awarded for heroism in a combat zone.

Pete has 2 of them.

As a 22 year veteran and current active duty member, I don't know how I feel about this. Accountability is important but really don't like the idea of Generals making risk averse decisions in fear of being fired.

Military career

Following graduation from Princeton in 2003, Hegseth joined Bear Stearns as an equity capital markets analyst and was also commissioned as a reserve infantry officer into the U.S. Army National Guard. In 2004 his unit was called to Guantanamo Bay, where he served as an infantry platoon leader with the Minnesota National Guard. His unit was under the operational control of the 3rd Battalion, 187th Infantry Regiment 101st Airborne Division. He was awarded the Army Commendation Medal. Shortly after returning from Cuba, Hegseth volunteered to serve in Baghdad and Samarra, where he held the position of infantry platoon leader and, later in Samarra, as civil military operations officer. During his time in Iraq, he was awarded the Bronze Star Medal, Combat infantryman Badge, and a second Army Commendation Medal.

He returned to active duty in 2012 as a captain. He was deployed to Afghanistan with the Minnesota Army National Guard and acted as a senior counterinsurgency instructor at the Counterinsurgency Training Center in Kabul. Hegseth, a major, currently serves in the Individual Ready Reserve. He has been awarded two Bronze Stars for his service overseas.

For the record, I wish Trump would consider Jack Carr for a senior defense position.

20 year Navy SEAL officer, conservative, and the guy absolutely disdains most military and political leadership for their lack of spine and underhandedness.

Dude looks like a domestic extremist. I'm sure the FBI logged into his phone after seeing that tat. It's almost as offensive as a PTA mom scolding a school board on homo books.

I was only an O3, if this group or council finds current leadership has done wrong, fire them day one.
