Personally, I think this is what the republican congress is afraid of. I think there is a right way to do it and a wrong way. And the number of wrong ways far outnumber the number if right.

If it turns into a gestapo type thing where people call a hotline reporting house X of having illegals so that an ICE team can raid their ass, then that would get UGLY fast. It would be easy for libs to spin that as Nazis hunting jews. And in cases where parents came illegally a decade ago and now have American born children would be ugly as well. The liberal media will be tipped off on these situations, and those families WILL get interviewed have their sob stories all over the news. Every day will be another sob story.

To me, the right way is to first pass a law that denies government at any level from providing benefits to illegals that they don't pay taxes for. So no welfare, no government housing, etc., but yes on public education, drivers licenses, etc. This would encourage the free loaders to self deport. No media sob stories, etc. THEN I would go after known gang/cartel members even if we don't have proof that they committed another crime (yet). What I would NOT do is deport criminals INSTEAD of imprisoning them for their other crimes. If a dude is serving 20 years for murder, then putting him on a bus for Mexico is PREFERABLE to jail. He should serve all 20 years and THEN be deported.

Anyway, I hope Trump doesn't F this up. And I think he has to convince congress that he won't if he wants to get Rick Scott as Senate leader, and any of his agenda through.

I'm surprised at those of you that are worried how any of this will appear. Have you not learned anything from the election? The effectiveness of the media is at an all-time low, and despite the vicious attacks over every subject under the sun, Trump's voters increased in size and great inroads have been made in demographics that have been the targets of the media goons forever.

Nobody is listening to them anymore except maybe the over 60 crowd and they will not be a diminishing voting block as they are replaced with younger generations that are much more likely to turn towards alternate media.

Amazing that folks think that deporting those residing here illegally is a violation of human rights or that it will wreck our economy.
Or that imposing tariffs against an enemy pledged to destroy us (China) is somehow going to wreck our economy. There are plenty of places with the capability to produce what we require without having our dollars build up the nuclear weapons arsenal of the People's Liberation Army.

Odd post coming from you.
I'm all for shutting down the borders and expelling violent criminals (after they complete their prison terms). My issue is if he spends billions of dollars going after people who's only crime is sneaking over the border. We don't have extra money to spend. And he needs a lot of political capital to cut all the other things he wants to cut. If the entire GOP congress thinks they will lose their seats over Trump, then they won't vote for anything he wants.
The question of cost comes down to business, demographic, cultural, and national defense practicality.

1. Cost of deportation
.. real cost in terms of transportation, apprehension. containment etc.+
.. Loss loss of needed unskilled labor +
.. Loss of skilled labor +
.. Risk of Labor shortages in the event of Peer to Peer war. Highly subjective. +
..Loss of demand for certain products or services.

Of the 20 million illegals what are the populations of both segments ?

2. Benefit of mass Deportation
..Government saving in resettlement cost- food, housing, transportation, etc over time.
..Savings in regards to education, training cost over time
..Reduction in the risk of civil strife over time. Example substantial Islamic pop growth over time.
..Increase the population in percentage and real terms of non participation in the labor force
..Preserving the indigence of our culture
..Reducing the possibility of a large idle population in the age of AI which will cause labor disruptions.

Thoughts and yes I know I missed some. But you get the idea

What Trump should do is take away the freebies, crack down on the fraud, and count self-deportations in his number of deportations. That will yield a nice big number without the issue of going door to door.

If we just eliminated government freebees for non-citizens, then the cost go way down and yet we would still benefit by those who bust their asses every day. The moochers would leave, and the ass busters would say. Exactly what we want. Then we can spend the savings on going after actual security threats, cartel members, etc..

Go after the bad/ hardened criminals first...If the media wants to make a story of it, list their crimes for everyone to see...

Get rid of the temporary work visas, social security cards, freebies, government handouts, and Asylum status of all the newcomers that do not deserve any of it. Penalize any company that would hire them. Make them self deport.

Set up a government program that would help with getting them back to their home countries.

Also, set up penalties for any Sanctuary city's authorities that refuse to cooperate with ICE and turn over criminals..

If the illegal has been here at least 10 years, can prove it, and has been a model citizen, consider setting up a program to get them on their way to legal status. Also consider making the non-criminal dreamers citizens or permanent legal status if they are not already..

Build the wall already with layers of razor wire and anything else we have technology wise to make it dang near impossible to get through the border, undetected, illegally...Make it like a gauntlet. Make drug and human trafficking a crime that can carry a death sentence.

I think they also need to fix the asylum loopholes that democrats exploited over the last 4 years. Remain in Mexico is a start, but it needs to be made permanent. We all know that 95 plus percent of these "asylum seekers" are not truly in fear for their lives and are coming for economic reasons or freebies. That's not a legitimate reason for asylum. The asylum law that people had to ask for asylum in the first country they come to was completely ignored over the last 4 years. Proof of that is all of the people from overseas and countries South of Mexico coming in from Mexico.

There has to be a resonable cutoff line though imo...the ripple effects from deporting EVERYONE WHO EVER CAME IN ILLEGALLY would be massive...it would literally be permanent political suicide for the GOP.

As an example, I have a latino coworker who is a good masculine Christian family man...we go shoot guns together. America is better off with him and his family in it. But I know that his parents came over here illegally around the time he was born. His wife is awesome too...she is nice, smart, beautiful, still has a slight accent, and I would not be surprised if she came here illegally and became naturalized at marriage.

Point being, I don't think most people who say "deport all illegals" realize how disruptive this would be. The 15-20MM that were intentionally let in over the last few years should absolutely be on the table...criminals first obviously.

But deporting anyone who ever came here illegally would be political suicide unlike anything that has ever been seen in this country. Would be extremely disruptive and would p*ss off millions of good, normal, conservative latinos. Not sure I can think of a worse idea. Maybe adopting the Confederate Flag as the national flag of the GOP?
