What I have

BA Communications/minor Journalism A&M
AA Visual Arts AIH

I was a graphic designer for most of my career as well as an editor and writer.

It was OK, but it never really floated my boat.

What I wish I had:

BS Civil Engineering

Or
BS engineering Technology and Industrial Distribution

Or
BS Architecture

Or
BS Criminal Justice

Or
BA Nursing

Oh, to do it all over again.
At the age of 40 and suffering disillusionment with hospital administration, I signed up for aptitude testing at Johnson O'Connor in Dallas. (Like you, I have too many interests competing for my attention, and I felt aptitude testing might give me some direction.) They cautioned me that adults sometimes experience regret after testing because career changes tend to be more difficult for middle-aged adults. I went ahead with it anyway. My results were interesting. My ideal career match, according to the tests, would have been Marine Archaeology. Seriously! But the most beneficial recommendation was to get out of managing people and return to healthcare IT. It was a bombshell "aha" moment for me.

No surprise here. Left Palestine at 17 and went straight to Marine Corps recruit training. Honed my skills there from 1994 through 2014. I guess you could say I have a BS in Communications( kind of sort of). I mean, being in charge of Base Communications at Dyess Air Force Base isn't without merit. One day I will expand on my associates, one day, maybe.

Really thinking hard about a Masters. In between jobs and have an untouched Hazelwood I would love to use on something and not let it go to waste. Just no idea what really. I don't feel an urge or need to expand on my BS so the world is kinda open I guess. I'm using this thread for ideas now.

Giving you my perspective, but it is thirty years old.

I went straight into a master's program as a full-time student after graduating with my engineering BS. The job market wasn't really that great when I got my BS, and I felt a little unfulfilled with just that degree.

Getting the MS gave me a focus which the undergraduate program did not, and it may have opened some doors for more design-oriented work that a BS alone would not. I'm not sorry I got it.

That being said, I'm not sure I'm really ahead money-wise. It did involve sitting out of the job market for a couple of years. If I had to do over again, I would have tried to find a job that would allow me to get my master's while working full time. Better companies offer tuition reimbursement.

If you want to get your master's, make sure it aligns with your long-term career goals and serves a purpose. As I said, try to find a job with tuition reimbursement.

One other thing. It was drilled into me to get an MS with thesis option rather than an MEng without a thesis. Looks better on a resume. This advice mostly came from academics.

The truth is maybe it makes a slight impact on a your first job out of school. After that, your work experience is more important. Unless you want to work on a PhD, I have found MS vs MEng makes little difference in the professional world. Again, getting the MS with thesis is not something I'm sorry I did. It is a proud accomplishment of mine, but really has made no difference in my career.

OP is correct. College grad with worthless liberal arts degrees contribute little to society and are inclined to vote for the Marxist DemocRATS. They're also inclined to expect others to pay for their student debt. Those with productive degrees in engineering, business, healthcare, etc. make this country function, so they're inclined to vote with the Patriots of the Republican Party.

Waaaay too much damn skule. Not recommended.
I hope you didn't study anesthesiology at UTSW.
Unfortunately, an anaesthesiology residency (4 years) was 2 years too short for my particular taste at the time.
Did someone there do something they shouldn't have done? Not sure why this question.
I have an atrocious next door neighbor that retired as a professor of anesthesiology at UTSW recently. I understand he was not much admired in his 10 to 15 years there. His 38 year marriage recently ended due to his now girlfriend….who was one of his students at the time and is 35 years his junior.

Let he who hasn't slept with one of his much younger medical students cast the first stone.
