Cornyn also INCREASED his primary support by 17 points from 2014 to 2020!

Is Thune any good?

This is one of many posts by Thune.

While I am 100% for Scott, posting that tweet from 2016 is not a represenation of Thune today. There were many back in 2016 that didn't want Trump who have completley changed their tune (including Vance).

If you look at Thune's recent tweet's he sure seems to favor Trump, but he could just be campaigning for the majority seat role. I'm far more concerned with Cornyn than I am Thune. But it's insane these senators won't go along with Trump and Vance's wishes after the blowout election.

Also, the reason Hawley said he is backing Cornyn is because "He tirelessly raised millions of dollars for competitive Senate races, including mine.". So it's all about money.

Cornyn has been great at fundraising for the GOP. All the support for him starts and ends there.
Yep, he is the best fundraiser in the senate.

Cornyn got 76% in the primary. even if 1 challenger were to double the votes against cornyn, he would still win.

as reviled as he is by most on this board, texas republicans like Cornyn.

This unfortunately is true.

I do not think they like Cornyn. I think it the case of "The devil we know."

Both Thune and Cornyn could stop this simply by coming out and vocalizing support for the Trump agenda and make recess appointments the top priority.

The fact they haven't says a lot.

All three candidates have said they support Trump's right to do recess appointments.

As I have said, I support Scott. But if he doesn't get it, the other two are not going to be an impediment to Trump.

Sort of. Cornyn said that it's a power the president had, and urged the senate to get confirmations done quickly. Thyme said it's on the table. Only Scott said he supports doing it 100%.

By writing huge checks to the RNSC? So Cornyn is not the largest piggy bank?

That's kind of yucky to me but it might be effective I guess. Every one seems to have their hand out, these days.

There is a LOT more that is needed than appointments. That is merely step one.

Cornyn's most important job will be getting Trump's political and judicial nominees confirmed. He is a whiz at that and was McConnell's number 2 until he term limited out (the only reason Thune's there now). I'm not a fan at all (and wonder why Beto never challenged him instead of Cruz!!) but he won't be a bad majority leader.

I am correct when saying the current Senators vote to elect a Senate Majority Leader? Vote is public????

Technically, its a secret ballot, but most Senators make their vote public.
And they lie about it since it is a secret ballot.

Newt was on Halperin this morning and related a story about Ted Kennedy and Bob Bird battling for Majority Leader well after Chappaquiddick. Bird won and Kennedy said apparently there nine more members of the Senate than he thought there were. Meaning the Senators told both of them, "I'm with you," and then voted on a secret ballot. They freaking lie when the the potential vote was being whipped.

A better idea would be to have a roll call vote, on the record. Then we'll be able to see who to blame.
This is a terrible idea.

The Senate is not the House for a reason.

I called Cruz's office and the mailbox was full. I kept calling other offices until I found an unfull box.

His silence on X is noteworthy. If he was voting Scott he would have said something there.

Why does Hawley have a hard on for Cornyn? Nobody on team mandate wants Cornyn or Thune as Majority Leader. Elon has even chimed in for Rick Scott. WTF?

I want Ted to speak up on this before the vote. Who is he voting for?

Our very first action after a HUGE Victory is to get swampy with it? WTF?

Called Cruz's Washington office 5 times. 0 to speak to staff each time. No answer and mailbox is full. Called San Antonio office also, no answer and mailbox is full.

Do they even listen to the voicemails? I'd much rather speak to a person.

The phrasing in that quote sounds like Cruz. Could see him being sensitive after Tucker called him out in 2022.

It is one of the ways that the Senate stays the Senate and doesn't devolve into the morass that is the House.

Trump and JD want Scott which should be enough for everyone.
Not to mention both Collins and Murkowski want Thune, which speaks volumes about that choice

Not directly, nor should he unless he's sure that Scott can win. Don't waste political capital this early because those overlooked by Trump, who hate him anyway, will come back to bite him in the butt...ust because they can.

Exhibit A is the petty McCain move over ObamaCare.
Im Gipper
How long do you want to ignore this user?
I don't think Trump can waste any capital at this point. He has so much built-up he's going to get everything he wants for Republicans.

I believe that he would prefer Scott. But he also knows that if one of the other two gets it, they're going to be his biatch.

Cornyn has always operated best in the shadows. He knows how the Senate works and knows where the bodies are buried (probably still has the shovels).

Not a chance in hell. And if Trump thinks that, he's very very wrong.

Trump's runway is short. The 2026 midterms. Having a Majority Leader dragging feet on scheduling hearings and votes and bringing things through the process will waste precious time, which Trump doesn't have.

ive emailed cruz, his voicemail was full today. My guess is Cruuz has betrayed us and after we voted for him he doesnt give a rats ass what we think. Funny how quickly he went comms dark after he got elected.

Best hope is Trump comes out and endorses Scott and then asks for open ballot, forcing them to show their cards.

Solid discussion. I agree Trump should come out and demand a public vote and declare he supports Scott.

Im Gipper

Trumps runway is enormous. This is not 2016. He has a clear mandate.

Cornyn & Thune will both line up do
Give him what he wants.

Why?

Because both of their priority number one is self- preservation
