No, the new senators will participate. It's typically not a public vote though, to my knowledge (though it should be).

both texas senators suck.

There is all kinds of horse trading going on for someone to get elected as Majority Leader, for example what committee assisgnments each person gets. How much say the get in how the Senate campaign fund gets spent. For Cruz, we know Coryn gets him nothing and has supposedly one of the reasons why McConnell sent money where he did. On the other hand what does Scott get Cruz that Thune is not already better posistioned to get Cruz?

Cruz voted for Scott after the 2022 election.

That is why Cruz had to win this most recent election last week by himself instead of getting help from the Senate Leadership Fund which is run by Mitch and his friends.

And they lie about it since it is a secret ballot.

Newt was on Halperin this morning and related a story about Ted Kennedy and Bob Bird battling for Majority Leader well after Chappaquiddick. Bird won and Kennedy said apparently there nine more members of the Senate than he thought there were. Meaning the Senators told both of them, "I'm with you," and then voted on a secret ballot. They freaking lie when the the potential vote was being whipped.

A better idea would be to have a roll call vote, on the record. Then we'll be able to see who to blame.

I have voted for Cruz, stood up for him when he was down and by damn this will be the last time I vote for him if he votes Cornyn or Thune. To hell with what Thune can give Cruz, he will have it without being a Texas Senator.

And that democrat approach can be and is very effective for certain votes, but this is much like a Primary vote and this is where you make hay. You lose turnout like the democrats just did when your vote is never your vote.

Cornyn has been great at fundraising for the GOP. All the support for him starts and ends there.
