In this vote, senators DGAS about opinions of their constituents. It's all about playing along with the established order and maximizing for themselves whatever they can. Moreover the leading contestants' levels of support or non-support for DJT is irrelevant.

Beto never challenged Cornyn because he is the stronger of the our Senators from an electability point of view. Cornyn, unlike Cruz, is well liked in DC, is a huge fundraiser, and is liked by most Texans.

I agree this is how it has typically functioned, decorum and all, but sometimes you read the room and decide the heat isn't worth it. Especially in this election with very non-traditional voters joining the base.

In 2016, I (incorrectly) assumed that an R President, House, and Senate win meant Trump's agenda would be pushed through with no issues.

He's also repeatedly stated in the past he wants to craft legislation and doesn't have a desire to be on SCOTUS. Maybe that's changed?

Cornyn is a rino and is not the stronger of the senators. The reason they come after cruz is because he is a strong constitutionalist (the left spent ungodly amounts of money to try to get rid of him). If cruz was the weaker they would have already succeeded. They dont want to get rid of cornyn because he will bend to whatever elitist/globalists want. Cornyn hates trump, cruz less so as he could be appointed by trump for SC or elsewhere.

If the issue is Republican hogs worrying that their troughs won't be filled next election time if Cornyn or Thune are not writing the checks, I think Elon could answer that with a word- "If you vote for Scott and you get your senate funds cut, I will make up the difference and then some." Problem solved.

But then I was always pretty good about spending other people's money. Hey, maybe that means I could be a senator!

I've been a delegate to 7 or 8 Texas GOP conventions and Cornyn supplies the lanyards for the credentials. Every time, people either get a lanyard from an exhibitor or bring their own, and throw the Cornyn lanyards on the floor. The entrance to the hall is covered in discarded Cornyn lanyards.
