I often call it mental illness too, which I do think it is. But it's also religious. Leftist politics is a religion to these people, but instead of being grounded in something that is constant and never-failing (like an eternal God who can forgive), it's grounded in the unpredictable whims of human beings who vote in elections every two years. She said yes and said that one of her friends told her that her parents voted for "the other one" because "Trump killed some people."
I told her that was just not true at all, and that they were too young to be worrying about voting and who is president.
