Hurricane & Tropical Storm Watches & Warnings extend well outside the cone & inland. Helene is expected to accelerate as it makes landfall, leading to Wind Hazards extending significantly far inland into the SE U.S. pic.twitter.com/yHy3ZKICSe
Also, @NWSWPC has issued a high risk for excessive rainfall for portions of the southern Appalachians in Georgia, South & North Carolina. Catastrophic and life-threatening flash and urban flooding, including numerous landslides, is expected across portions of this region. pic.twitter.com/b0O9ZPo6ho

The AccuWeather Local StormMax rainfall for Helene is 36 inches, but is likely to occur hundreds of miles inland of the Gulf coast and centered on the southern Appalachians, where catastrophic flooding can occur in some communities.

Has Harris come out yet and blamed climate change?
I have authorized the FL National Guard to send air assets to North Carolina in support of NC’s Hurricane Helene response.

I had no idea the rain would be so intense. With FL taking the brunt of the storm I expected inland to be a wind event and downed trees and power lines. Not a major flooding event made worse by topology which increased the velocity of the water.
With it being g a Cat 1 inland I would have expected Beryl damage, not Harvey damage.
This is so incredibly sad.

I don’t know who to credit for this video yet. Will share when I know. It is a local and the video was shared in my family’s group chat. Downtown Chimney Rock, North Carolina is completely gone 😔 pic.twitter.com/KcqXJ4cEkO

Yes I know totals were much higher I am just saying that very few people even if the predictions are accurate still struggle being prepared for that much rainNanomachines son said:Sq 17 said:
Nobody is ever prepared for 15 + inches of rain
This was way higher than 15". A few mountain top areas got 40+". It's why so many videos are of washouts and more. Mountain rain with flash flooding is far more vicious than flat plain flooding like during Harvey.

Sounds like we've got all employees accounted for in Asheville and Hendersonville offices.
Just waiting, anxiously, to hear back from one of my Aggie friends and her parents. Texted and FB messaged, but nothing back yet.
Holy crap, I drove through that area on I40 quite a lot when driving home from A&M to Petersburg , VA.Nanomachines son said:Some videos of I-40 courtesy of a fellow pilot. pic.twitter.com/7bFP37Kwa7

Why don't we have feds shouting from the rooftops?

One would think this would bother them. Instead, as they are scorned by Left & Right alike, the hicklibs likely take this as deserved, reinforcing their

contempt for where they live and their neighbors.

They will be happy to accept help from their numerous Repub neighbors in the region. But, they will still side with those who are ignoring them come November, while feeling superior to those who helped them.
Oh well.

It is incredibly difficult getting resources and help to the hardest hit communities in Western North Carolina.

We’re in Fruitland, SW of Chimney Rock. Roads and bridges are washed out. Trees, utility poles, and power lines are down everywhere. Cell signal is very spotty #NCwx pic.twitter.com/jlzcl5b1aF
Yep, we got like 44 or 48 inches of rain in Harvey, in like 40 something hours. But did not flood. And in the mountainous areas, or even areas with high hills, it does not take 40 inches to be a catastrophe. We had some property leased between Uvalde and Rocksprings and got a 4 or 5 inch rain, over a short period of time, and the water running down washed a maintainer and a huge backhoe way, way downstream. But no damage to houses because people in that area don't tend to build where that can happen.Nanomachines son said:Sq 17 said:
