The backstory about what the judge did or did not do relative to the Sheriff's daughter may be ruled inadmissible by the judge. Frankly, I would expect it to be inadmissible, absent some type of diminished capacity defense and even then would be severely restricted, IMO.

Where are you seeing anything about this supposed backstory? I've tried to find something about it, and I have found nothing. The only reference to it is OP saying it. At least that I could find.

So what you see on X now is that the judge was having relations with the sheriff's daughter who is 17 or 18.

But I don't think that's the case here. Supposedly, the sheriff calmly walked into the outer chambers, and asked to see the judge. When he got into Chambers, he shot the judge, walked out the door, threw his hands in the air and surrendered.

Since we're speculating, I speculate OP just made it up

My guess is, the sheriff was upset over something related to the lawsuit he was facing for improper supervision of a deputy that committed sexual misconduct against a defendant. I guess we will find out at some point.

Yes, since typically when it is raised, there is usually too much time between the supposed provocation and the act.

Given the behavior of the sheriff just prior to the shooting, I don't think there is anything close to that here

Sounds like everything had just broken up for lunch, and the sheriff walked over to the judges office, asked for permission to enter, got permission, and shot him

Walked out and surrendered immediately.

Fairly obvious it was planned.

Saw somewhere that it is 17 for a person in a "position of authority" and that there is a 10 year age difference limit for 16 and 17 year olds. Also saw rumors that there was coercion involved or that another deputy was involved in the judge's quarters...but nothing from a reputable source.

Well, the fact is I don't.

But It doesn't matter to me. I am OK with it morally, but legally, he murdered a judge.

A person, especially a law enforcement officer, does not get to usurp/disregard the judicial system because he feels like it.

If he was truly worried about the judge 'getting away with it', how does he think this situation is going to play out now? He killed the judge. Great! Now there is no trial to be had and nothing has been accomplished other than making a horrible situation epically worse.

He has selfishly allowed his emotions to destroy his family. He is going to jail. He is losing his job. He is no longer going to be present with his family who needs him and he has put them in a financial situation they were not in before. He has selfishly destroyed his family because he thought with his heart and not his head. This was the worst way to handle it.

You and I might 'let him go' if we are on the jury, but you and I ain't gonna be on the jury and we all know that. I have been on several juries and I am saddened to know these people are considered my 'peers'. For whatever reason they dont select hard working, educated, balanced, morally centered people. LOL.
