Off when not your turn to speak

I think ABC said they would turn them back ON if they start cross talk

If she underperforms, that's as bad as a complete loss IMO.

She has to OVERperform bigly.

That's probably a good thing.
Definitely.

She wanted her "I AM SPEAKING!!!" moment at the debate. Won't happen if the mics are off.

Unless they've got a plan to not show the split screen an allow her to fake it when he isn't talking.

He should just let her talk on and on and on and when she gets mad at him not responding he could just say "you're speaking" while looking bored or falling asleep

I thought she asked for microphones on, her to be seated (I guess so people couldn't see how short she is compared to Trump) and to have notes they can reference. Trump's team said nope, we're keeping the same rules Biden agreed to and I thought that was the end of it.

If they are going to have the microphones on FOR SURE Heels Up will say her line "Excuse me, I'm a woman speaking" about a dozen times whether Trump tries to interrupt her or not.

Can't do that. The microphones are primarily for the TV and NOT for the individual candidates. There might be some minor in venue amplification but if the venue is small enough it might not be necessary.

If she pulls that line and his mic is off it isn't going to look good on TV.

My prediction is this one is boring and predictable AF, changing exactly zero people's opinions or votes, but both sides will immediately and loudly declare their candidate "crushed" the opponent in attempt to spur their own base's enthusiasm.

In other words, it'll go exactly like every other debate over the past 20 years except the one where democrats intentionally let Biden blow himself up and declare victory over Medicare.
Sounds like you want the MSM to frame the messages. No thanks I'll take boring debate with the candidates using their own words.

You are usually wise. But this post is idiotic in tone and message.

Apologies, it was meant more a cynic than anything else. A prediction of what would happen, not what should happen.

From my perspective the policies are ALL that matter, and to me the choice between two collective packages of policies is a very ver clear one. So to that end, yes a policy debate should be the most important thing. I have just become jaded with the way the parties and media use these things.

Trump needs to let Kamala talk as much as possible. There is a direct correlation between her amount of talking and her declining poll numbers.

I'm still shocked they're going through with the debate. She's only done a one-on-one debate once in her life and that was 4 years ago against Pence where nobody was watching.

In that setting she could point out how awful Trump/Pence were and how she and Joe would fix all the problems. That is MUCH easier than having to run on the past 4 years of 3 proxy wars, runaway inflation, and at LEAST 12 million illegals flooded into the country on her watch (as border czar).

I expect some deer in headlights moments from her and a LOT of cackling as gets nervous. This is a woman who has slept her way to where she is and has never had to earn it. Those types usually aren't great on their feet (they're used to being off them).

Kamala will be glamed out. Might have a sheen to her. Big string of Lisa Simpson pearls round her neck.

She'll look like a cross between some lady on a Caldwell Banker magazine ad and a 26- y/o prosecutor doing traffic court.

She'll go with a lighter color. Not navy because it's too much like Trumps signature look.

Pearl necklace essential though because she's already come out and said she wears pearls in support of her sorority so can't back track on that. But probably be gold and pearls to cover all the bases.

There are more landmines for Kamala to navigate than Trump, because the economy and the state of the border are bad, and she doesn't have a leg to stand on. She also can't reconcile her switching every major policy position except abortion, with her claim that her values have not changed.

Abortion is Trump's worst issue. Because he refuses to take a moral stance in either direction.

I'm expecting Roe v. Wade to be a topic early on to try and get it in when the most number of people are watching.

Kamala dodging the media her whole campaign means the stakes for her are astronomical. If she doesn't do well, she's going to lose. Presumably she knows it. My hope is that she implodes under the weight of the pressure. Her default mannerisms and verbal ticks are weird. But when she's told to act normal, she's less like Dexter and more like Sheldon. Still comes across weird, but also insincere.

The moderators are on her side, but that's tricky too because everyone is wise to mainstream media bias. If their treatment of Trump vs. Harris resembles the dichotomy between Dana Bash's treatment of Vance vs. Harris/Walz that's not going to advantage the Dems. It'll be seen as an injustice. Interested to see if they attempt to fact check Trump in real time like Candy Crowley did to Romney(?).

I'm cautiously optimistic as someone who doesn't want Kamala to be president.

Harris is going to put in 10 times the prep for this that Trump will and will likely be able to hit all the canned talking points. She clearly has some anxiety issues about this kind of thing so if those pop up and she looks/sounds uncomfortable, then it might hurt her. But I suspect she will stick with well-rehearsed lines and even any rejoinders to Trump will likely be things they've anticipated and scripted for her.

I have zero faith on Trump being able to articulately respond and hit back, so I'm just hoping he stays somewhat on message with his talking points and avoids the big misstep.

People keep repeating expectations that Trump will soundly win or even dominate but he's never actually done that in a debate. Even in the decisive debate that caused Biden to drop out, Trump didn't do that great it's just that Biden showed his mental struggles to the world.

I'd love to see Trump actually win on the back of some major Harris gaffe but I'm more realistically hoping for a draw as I think that's enough for Trump to maintain momentum.

This could be a very frustrating night as it's such an easy win for Trump.

All he has to do his stay focused, stay on script, and avoid the personal attacks and he has an easy win. Just let Harris show the world what a ding bat she can be when she's not being protected and he has the W. Sadly, none of this comes easy for Trump. If the mics are turned on it may prove to tempting for him and he'll start going off on his rants and insults which will be playing right into Harris' hands.

Trump decides who wins and who loses Tuesday night. Or more accurately Trump's mouth decides.

Kamala will get tripped up on her canned response when Trump points out she's been VP for the past 4-years so why hasn't she undertaken to solve any of the problems she's complaining about.

Problem Kamala got is she trying to act detached like she's not currently VP. Trump won't let this slide so she better be ready, and it better sound natural.

I predict Kamala will deliver most of her canned responses adequately with a couple bizarre word salads mixed in.

The moderators will goaltend for Harris at least once.

Trump will not rabidly attack Harris, but he will call her "stupid" at least once and get a rebuke from the moderators and a set-up indignant response from Harris.

Trump will also stay on message some, but also meander off topic many times as well.

Overall both sides will claim victory but the press will hail Kamala's performance as her team is leaking details that is setting a low bar for her to clear.

The issue with the mods is what questions they will ask. My prediction is Trump gets a bunch of questions about his trials, J6, white supremacy, and abortion. Aside from abortion these are topics no one cares about but hardcore libs. But they'll get him on the defensive and off the policy points that Kamala is weak on.

Kamala will get asked leading questions and questions that allow her to hit at Trump while nothing hard on her own record of epic failure.

This is the one given.

It will all be glowing praise, as though she is the greatest debater in history.

Fox News will be the worst of all.

And all the "insta polls" will show Harris winning the debate 3-1 or more.

Been that way for the Democrat ever since 2000.

Wildest part of the debate will be the memes created and distributed in real time while the debate is ongoing.

We saw this with the Paw meltdown debate. Here it will be an even faster pace.

Meme warfare will be brutal.

The Democrats always have the questions prior, except perhaps when certain Fox News people are the moderators.

Wow You have no idea what a asylum seeker is. They were a thing in the 1930's, to 1970's people actually escaping death camps and communist gulags.

As a libtard please explain to me the contradiction between allowing mass immigration into an industrialized, high resource consumption society and the environmental "concerns" the left yells from the roof tops.

Your posts reek of logic fails and ignorance.

Kamala will have several goal-tenders working for her. I see several Candy Crowley moments where ABC jumps in with specific news cuts to prove her points.

The talking points will be the same on every MSM outlet afterward.

If it goes really bad, I see some kind of emergency exit for Kamala and Michelle taking over. Not sure if this is possible but when did laws start to matter when it comes to an election?

Even with the mics off, if he starts muttering/rambling/talking to himself, that'll be used in ads before the debate is over. Just stick to the script I'm sure his team has laid out for him. Speak just the facts and do not go into rally mode, and he's fine.

The best thing for Trump would be if the debate were viewed as boring by viewers. That'll mean people who kept him out last time aren't concerned Trump is going to be how he acted/spoke when he was in the WH the last time. He'll still disgust them, but they can hold their nose to vote for him like in '16.
