I'm glad JB put this out… BUT, I'm also pretty sure he said "Thank You" after KG said what he said.
This appears to be nothing more than damage control. They waited to see what was coming and then both put out their statements. It would have been crickets if there were no backlash. IMHO
10 seconds of trying to be funny cost them big $$$ (not that either of them are hurting for it).
This, he certainly did not seem to have any problem with it whatsoever. I think some of his fans on here are seeing what they want to see.
At least he apologized and acknowledged the wrong-doing, unlike that big giant baby who used to be a volunteer fireman.
He only apologized after the fact and after conservative Australian senators were calling for them to be expelled from the country. Don't mistake this for a real apology.
And they will have no real consequences state side. This won't affect his business at all.
Y'all all saw his get up and stand up routine at the Biden fundraiser a few weeks back.
Well yesterday, during a Tenacious D show in Australia, he presented his band mate Kyle Gass with a birthday cake and asked him to make a wish. Gass's response was vile: "Don't miss Trump next time".
It'll be interesting to see how this plays out. Is he in full damage control mode or he legit pissed at KG? I hate his politics but he's always seemed likeable enough to me. I hope he's being earnest and parts ways with his despicable partner.
He has been working with Tenacious D for years. I'm sure that he knows, and agrees, with his politics. Black wasn't 'blindsided' by what Glass said. He was surprised by the number of his customers who didn't agree with it.
He is an insane liberal, and therefore, a liar. Don't be sucked in to his earnest apology act. He just wants you to stop being pissed off and buy his stuff.
You know, it's okay for people to disagree politically. As far as what Jack Black himself did, this is about a much as you can expect in terms of contrition.
We can never know what's truly in someone's heart, but If everyone handled things like this the way Jack Black did here, we'd be a lot better off as a society.
We need to be able to say something stupid, let alone be associated with someone who said something stupid, and give a (seemingly) sincere apology and then have everyone move on.
What? Wait until you are getting absolutely torched for hours on end to act like you did something wrong and issue an "apology"? No, that is not how I want my children to behave as they grow up.
Zero honor or virtue in that. Would be more honest to be like "we said what we said, we hate Trump but it was a joke, if you don't like it, suck a Tenacious D".
I don't really see a reason to **** on Jack Black over this. I have no doubt he is a raging liberal, but he didn't say it and condemned it and canceled his tour over it. Obviously he wasn't expecting it to be said, didn't want it to be said, and did not go along with it or indulge it when it was said. Honestly it seems like canceling the rest of his tour was going a little far, but if he takes it that seriously, good for him.
He only apologizes after they were calling to throw him out the country. Not a peep of remorse before then.
My hot take is he's trash for throwing his friend under the bus for making an edgy, ill advised joke and his response should have been an apology, an acknowledgement of it being wrong, maintain the tour, and maintain his friendship and working relationship with a person he's been associated with for decades. As it stands he's a disloyal *****. Unless there's video of him calling him out in the moment or walking off stage this is just damage control.
Well, that's certainly one opinion. -_-
The correct one. They've been a team for 20 years, they're both raging liberals, their crowd is composed primarily of raging liberals, Jack Black is just doing this because outsiders are telling him to, which means he's more loyal to the mob than his friend. That's trash.
This is all damage control actions so that he can still be a talking panda and dinosaur feuding with an Italian plumber, rather than genuine upset over what his friend said.
People that don't like entertainers wishing the former president had been publicly murdered = "the mob". Oh, and it's just an "edgy joke".
You are confusing whether I think the joke is appropriate with whether or not I think Jack Black actually believes that it was inappropriate in the moment. I don't like the joke. I think it's distasteful. I'm just saying that Jack Black isn't saying what he's saying, because HE believes it needs to be said, but because other people are demanding it from him and he wants to play Bowser in the next Donkey Kong/Mario/Princess Peach movie. He's throwing his friend under the bus, because you/others demand it. He's lying to you to placate you and he's abandoning his friend in the process.
In other words, he's the guy that was riding with his homie, who shot another guy, helped him throw him in the trunk, helped burry the body in a ditch, and then AFTER the public found out about it he pointed at his friend and said "I don't condone murder, I am appalled by the fact he killed that guy." And expects you to ignore the fact he didn't come forward before it was found out, and doesn't want you to pay attention to the fact he helped his friend try to get away with it.
Actually if you look at what he says, he never actually apologizes. He says he doesn't condone hateful speech or promote violence.
Also someone pointed out that in the video at the time Jack Black may have said 'thank you' after the statement was made? Now I've only watched it once and I'd have to see it again but if, so that's pretty telling, also he didn't apologize on the stage. Did he? He didn't say oh no no no that's too far. We don't do that. He let it ride and then apparently made these comments after all the shows got canceled.
Well, I will give him partial credit for at least saying something about it sometimes what we don't hear says more than what we do.

I would agree with you but their future tour is "Rock D Vote" which sends proceeds to "Rock the Vote" which claims to be non-partisan which obviously can't be argued anymore if they get to perform.
I'm glad JB put this out… BUT, I'm also pretty sure he said "Thank You" after KG said what he said.

I'm not really a Jack Black fan, but I don't think he knew what he was going to say and handled it professionally. He's a performer in the middle of a performance, and he's not going to start any kind of argument on stage in the middle of an act. I also don't think he had any real opportunity in that moment to consider what Gass said and the consequences and implications. He didn't dwell on it or say anything about it or keep it going. He just moved on.
I think it also takes some time to process and discuss this kind of thing. For one, you can't just cancel a tour without having a lot of conversations because you have contractual obligations to fulfill. "My long time buddy said something incredibly stupid," probably isn't one of the contractual justifications for backing out of those contracts. Making that kind of decision is likely going to cost them a lot of money, so I can see why it would take time to make and announce that decision.
Ok I see what you're saying. They're both despicable, hateful leftists, and only now is JB is throwing his fellow scumbag under the bus due to the financial impact.
It's always amazing to me when American entertainers feel the need to **** all over their home country in front of a foreign audience.
It plays well to foreign audiences. Much like saying "Howdy!" to an audience in College Station gets a positive reaction but doing the same to an audience in New York won't.
If you want people to lie to you to make you feel better then by all means cheer what Jack Black is doing. You're just not living in reality. He's not saying what he's saying because he believes it, he's doing it because his PR team is telling him to. It's why his apology was posted days after Gass said it rather than right afterwards. It's why he didn't stop the show when he said it. There's no video that I've seen of him criticizing the statement. He's taking what was part of his show, ignored during the show, and trying to retrofit his disapproval so you think "Good guy Jack Black, bad guy Kyle Gass" rather than bad guy both of them.
You have people on this thread believing the apology. They are naive/easily manipulated.
I'm not one to hold people accountable for thought crimes. As long as Black isn't vocally supporting dangerous or divisive rhetoric, I have no reason to be critical.
Here, he did nothing wrong. His response to the comment was severe, he was not the person who said it, and at no point did he defend KG.
I'm not such a tribalist that I am going to demonize people that disagree with me just for not thinking like I do. I'm actually very much against that, and think that such a viewpoint is not really all that helpful in general.
I think it is correct to be critical of KG. I don't agree with burying Jack along with him just based on association.
It's amazing how a bullet to the ear can change amplify attitudes.
I think the comment reflected their real thoughts about Trump. I don't think they would've cared if he had died. They just got caught saying it.
I'm glad I'm not held accountable to the thoughts of all the posters on F16.
I don't think you can attribute KG's comments to Jack Black's real thoughts. Just because you are in business with someone, doesn't mean their views are your views.
For example, I sure wouldn't say that all of Mike Pence's views are an accurate reflection of Donald Trump's thoughts. I wouldn't say that Donald Trump's views are an accurate reflection of Mike Pence's thoughts. But, those two guys were on the same ticket, they were in business together.
Jack Black is an opinionated entertainer that generally acts professionally.
You are implicitly advocating for the burial of KG and I'm saying that neither one of them should be buried, but that Jack Black shouldn't try to shift all of the blame to his buddy while he was standing on stage with him and laughing at the joke when it was said and didn't call it out as inappropriate at the time. He's trying to exploit the fact that he's more famous, more well liked, and abandoning his friend to take all of the blame rather than sharing in it. The message is WE ****ed up, not HE ****ed up.
There's a difference to me between what KG did and then apologized for, because he was trying to be edgy/in group with his liberal buddies, and what the likes of Keith Olbermann and Destiny do where they are genuinely justifying taking a shot at Trump/mocking the death of the rally attendee.

Oh my God, he said rock the vote he wants to stone Trump!

I'm a fan and just watched video. Sorry. I'm done. BYE
JB clearly laughs and says Thank You. Thought nothing of it until the backlash.

Watching the video, pretty sure he said thank you to the robot carrying the cake.
He said: "Thank you. Please take that back stage and cut it to pieces."
That doesn't sound like a statement condoning what KG said at all.
Actually if you look at what he says, he never actually apologizes. He says he doesn't condone hateful speech or promote violence.

Have any of our dangerous rhetoric liberals spoken out against this.
Here's the rub. As Matt Walsh pointed out, Democrats should be doubling down if they truly believe Trump is literally Hitler, not apologizing for making "jokes". So ultimately, they're just cowards without convictions.
Not sure if mentioned but the band was actually doing a handful of democratic "rock the vote" shows later this year. No way an "official" fundraiser could have that attached to them.
Nope, he laughs, stands up with a mouth agape grin says Thank you. We love you KG. Then the robot walks past him and he says take that back stage and cut it into pieces and then thanks the robot as it walks off. Then proceeds to go into his goofy plastic saxophone bit to celebrate KG.

Gina Carano was fired for way less from Disney……
Hey Kathleen Kennedy….anything to say about this?????
Not going to defend their beliefs, but I can believe Jack Black is uncomfortable with violence and possibly had no idea what was said or done on stage until shown video in a moment of sobriety.
