It's not about concluding, but shooting incidents of all types frequently have status press conferences to inform the public along the way. This one, on the other hand, is radio silent and denying FOIA requests

Well, except to defend Melissa McCarthy being on SS detail. They did break silence for that. They apparently concluded enough of the investigation to determine Melissa did a bang-up job

Based on their actions, "informing the public" is the LAST thing they're trying to do. Their concern is more that someone will break ranks and do just that...

watching this now. These guys are reliable in terms of firearms opinions.

100%. People should be infuriated by this, not defending them. They have circled the wagons and only put out bull**** like sloped roof excuses

It was this guy a staffer on Trump's media team. He was simply directing a photographer to move around the stage to get better angles. When the bullet started flying, he was few feet from the rear of the President. His first reaction: he got on top of two females and a male photographer (Selena Zito along with her daughter) and protected them. It's been highly reported and Selena Zito was interviewed multiple times on various networks describing the incident. No need to look for boogie men where there are none.

Incredulous that it's July 21 and we haven't seen a single press conference from USSS, DHS or the FBI. Not a word. When in history have wee seen complete radio silence?
You are amazed that the USSS and FBI haven't concluded an investigation into an assassination attempt in one week, written all reports, informed all the necessary people in the chain of command and had public discussion and announcements of the findings?

Have you ever interacted with the government before?

If they concluded the investigation in a week, you would probably be incredulous that they rushed such an important investigation and that means they already knew what they were going to find and had set everything up.
I see what you saying man, but I'm not talking about an investigation and final report.

People's issue is that the presidential candidate with well over 50% of American support was shot in the head on live tv.

At a very minimum the American public should be informed of basic facts and circumstances surrounding the incident.

The consequence of complete radio silence is that theories and speculation run rampant eroding trust in government and contributing to the decay of public discourse social order.

When an incident occurs there's never complete radio silence. Look at the Baltimore bridge for example. that incident occurred and you had press conferences for the first few days to establish basic facts and tamp down speculation that it was some kind of sophisticated attack

Here we have't seen that. Not even close. So I see what you saying, but what we seeing here is unprecedented.

I challenge anyone that doesn't think this is unprecedented to name an instance where something this big happened and we see complete radio silence for 8-days.

Every agency denies FOIA into active investigations. State and federal. That is standard.

Exactly what sort of status hearing are you expecting? "Yep, shooter is still dead?"

I have no doubt they are giving status updates to Trump and Biden's teams. But it is ridiculous to expect the public to receive continuous updates during an active investigation when there is no public threat. The shooter is dead.

As part of the investigation, I'd really like to see a full review of the entire USSS team supporting the event (including the advance team) and what they were doing in the days leading up to the assassination attempt. Everyone is focused on Cheatle right now but I think the issues run much deeper in the org.

In my career I have worked with a couple of individuals who were associated with the White House Military Office. The picture they've painted of their counterparts in the USSS is one of extreme arrogance and irresponsible personal behavior. Claims of the USSS agents being "known to party extremely hard in whatever city they're in every night" (seems like a bad idea if it possibly compromises their ability to be focused the next day?). One very colorful story I was told was that during the W years, apparently a bunch of USSS agents got into wife swapping with each other, which in my source's words "was all fun and games until one of them got pregnant."

We hold other professions to strict personal standards (for example, airline pilots not being allowed to drink 12 hours before flying). Seems like someone tasked with protecting the president should have a similar level of restriction when they're going to be on duty the next day? The rumor of this third sniper team not showing up... were they too hung over to report for duty? The conspiracy theories are running wild but I think a lot of the failures we've seen here are traceable to a lack of personal accountability being stressed within the USSS for too long.

I'd like to know why the former president was left so exposed. I'd like to know if requests for security were denied. I'd like to know of I decided to attend an event, what is being done differently to protect people in attendance so that I don't get my head blown off. This is relevant information that they owe to the public right now, not months later.

USSS, DHS and FBI all have deputy directors of communications. We can infer that somewhere, someone gave an order for these people to stand down and not do their job.

Why?

1. This is in progress and will no doubt take a while to verify all of the different failures on site. Would you like them fire off theories after only a couple days of talking to the people who were there?

2. Sounds like they were and they'll be investigating why.

3. That's not the SS responsibility, that will be the responsibility of the event organizers.

Now we in a situation where the first public official to comment on the basic facts of this case will be USSS Director Cheatle testifying before house committee on Monday morning at 10am EST (assuming they don't try and quash it later today).

Also, based on this video, if the cops peeked over the roof right before this then where tf they at?

How many seconds / minutes before the first shot was this video, anyone know?

2. They officially denied refusing requests. Story seems to he changing now but it's rumor. An update of FACTS would be helpful

3. They sure didn't hesitate to tell us how all these women are so great at protecting us. I don't doubt what you're saying but I do take it with a slight grain of salt seeing as the SS is 5000 people or so and those on body detail is maybe a couple hundred.

Can you give examples of a time when the FBI gave status updates on an investigation to the public when there was no ongoing public threat from the target of the investigation?

The kid is dead, so it wouldn't be analogous updates about the Unibomber, who posed a continual and ongoing threat.

If we know there is not an ongoing threat, it's not because the FBI told us that. Based on the vitriol directed at Trump where even members Congress this week are still calling him a neo-Nazi, I would not say there is no ongoing threat. 9 days ago there was no ongoing threat per these people

1. Agreed. But it's been a week. If we don't have more confirmed details in a month or two I'd be frustrated too, but the government can't fart without an 80 page environmental impact report so I'm not surprised at all they haven't released all this in a week. Would much rather them be accurate then try and rush out info to appease people.

2. Agreed and I'm assuming we'll get more clarification on this as well.

3. Again, not the SS responsibility. Their job is to protect the primary (which they obviously failed at here). You're looking for answers from event organizers who are in charge of security for the sites.

At the moment as far as I would go would be FBI/CIA or similar chatted up a kid and encouraged him to go do this. Maybe purposely downgraded Trump's security. Would require very little effort or people in the know.

But that is just a "what if".

Eight days and not hint of any After Action Report or if one has even been generated.

A lot of oxygen is being used up on motive which is basically useless data at this point since the perpetrator is dead and no longer a threat and not facing prosecution. Mens Rea is not the objective here.

The main objective here is the breakdown of security, the apparent presence of complacency and the absence of adequate resources

All the rest of this is white noise

The After Action Report investigation is key. The AAR summarizes all the key information related to the evaluation of the event and damn well better include an overview of performance related to each protection detail objective and associated core capabilities, contrasted against an original copy of the forward team's assessment plan highlighting strengths and areas of concern along with any potential threats and all resources requested.
