Like John Wayne said, "Sure I wave the American flag. Do you know a better flag to wave? Sure I love my country with all her faults. I'm not ashamed of that, never have been, never will be."

If you wouldn't be willing to defend the US if it were attacked (which is the only conceivable scenario under which a draft would occur despite the lamentation of the pearl clutching alarmists) then you should identify one that you would, and move there. And if there is no country on the face of the earth you'd prefer to live in than the US and you'd still not fight, then there may be another problem. IMHO, of course.

Pretty ironic flex, since John Wayne was a draft dodger

Not a flex. Intentional to see how many of the folks sprinting to brag about how they'd dodge a draft would be critical out of the other side of their mouth. Wayne's chicken **** decision to avoid the war aside, what he said isn't any less reflective of my sentiments on the matter.

The US has myriad faults. Folks who wouldn't be willing to defend the country of their birth, where they choose to live, against an imminent threat should point out another country they'd prefer to live in and then elucidate why they're not there.

You need to quit posting and get ready to deploy biden boy

Have never voted DemocRAT in my life. This election will make my third straight for Trump. I'd like to tell you to do better but with an effort that lazy I'm not certain you're capable.

Being a conservative voter doesn't mean supporting corrupt regimes and institutions because we should not question those who hold power. Being conservative means that you adhere to founding principles and ideals.

I don't know how anyone can look at the fact that fifty one intelligence officials claimed Hunter's laptop was Russian disinformation knowing it was a complete lie. And then support these same officials now telling us we should start WW3 with the Russians. Every one of those intelligence officials should be removed and publicly disgraced, if not given lengthy prison terms or worse and be prevented from ever again having anything to do with the direction of our country.

It is the duty of all Americans to question and debate until the truth is seen and then if necessary do the hard work which comes with doing the right thing. We didn't do that did we? Instead the left and apparently you have relied on our corrupt federal government both seen and unseen to incrementally push us into a war with Russia.

We now know that Joe Biden is a dementia addled pedophilic buffoon and also know that there is someone unseen in the seat of power. I didn't go into the voting booth in November 2020 and see that communist scumbag Obama on the ballot but I think he is the one who, in the name of Joe Biden, has implemented policies which if adhered to long enough will destroy our country and may have done enough damage already to be a fait accompli.

We are seeing publicly what they are doing to our military by placing mentally ill people in positions of power. Do you not think they have done the same thing in the less visible areas of our three letter agencies and bureaucracy? Why do you think the military is missing recruiting goals? The warrior class is voting with their feet. Yet here you are supporting the regime currently in power all the while you know or should know the truth!

Fight against the dictatorship of the federal bureaucracy!

We have nukes too. Once those things start flying, we are all done for. Your mistake is thinking that Russia is the enemy. Our government has proven that they have zero interest in winning wars. They handcuff our soldiers with ridiculous ROE's while the enemy doesn't have to play by those rules. The last 20 years has proven that our government never wanted to win the war. Right here with the 20+ million illegal men Biden let in.
Would be nice if we could conduct a ground war right here against the illegal men invading, but we reward the illegal men rather than oppose them so don't need a single draftee.

I guess the same place it was 40+ years ago when registration began (again) and all those draftees were called up.
I am guessing you mean 50+ years ago, the draft ended 1973. Those draftees called up back then were needed in Europe and the Pacific and later Vietnam. We have no need for a draft, we are in no ground wars and should not be.

When I went in for my physical prior to being drafted (but the draft ended), a lot of that was happening. I lived in a small town so we met at the county courthouse and they took boys from my small town and surrounding small towns into Houston. Many of the guys, most in fact, had notes from their family doctor that they had dizzy spells, or fainted due to this or that, and they were disqualified from the draft based on that alone. Again, this was toward the end of the draft and I guess they were pretty lax about it.

I read all the back and forth here, and I think we could get a consensus that the wars or skirmishes ( I can remember the big debate about undeclared war and VietNam..) have not beneefifitted us much. The 50000, some of my classmates too, who died in VietNam-.for what? Why did we quit in Iraq, we could have blown through whole country. Why did we go to Afghanistan, knowing it bankrupted Russia, and the people are useless?
We all have questions, and I know what was going through Trumps head when he said, "I don't get it". Many of ask the same thing.

I think you missed the word "again". It was stopped in about 1973 and then registration reintroduced in about 1979 when I registered. Nobody has been "called up" after the 1979 registration for any ground war.

In addition to the draft, as a layer in between civilian and draft, they introduced the Inactive Ready Reserve. All who had prior military service with time still left in their contract were recalled. If those troops ran out then they would institute a draft.

I signed up out of high school in 1988 because I couldn't afford college (gi bill). All contracts are 8 years and you chose how many active years. I chose 2. I was an infantryman and went to basic in ft benning then a year in Korea and then nine months in ft Campbell, ky. Got out in august went to college then got recalled back into active duty infantry for desert storm/desert shield in January

Served 4-5 months, travelled, saw and did things, did my job and got released out of military. I think I was technically recalled but has the word "called"in it so technically I was called up as well as I was out of the military.

Send your kid to die in a war overseas while an 18 year old illegal alien - who doesn't give two cents about this country - freely crosses the border to replace them?! No thanks. Why would anybody willingly die for that?

No native American kid, especially a white conservative, should die to protect a country where at least half of it hates them nor a piece of land where millions of illegals are invading every few months.

I do kind of wish there was a kind of national service you would be required to do (men and women) when you turned 18. For 2 years.

I've always thought Israel's conscription is worthwhile. Either serve in the army, reserves, academic reserve (training intelligence or R&D) or pilot school. Maybe throw in another few non-combat type roles.

A couple of years and you get public college paid for (as the trade off). That would give young people a purpose and skills right off the bat. Help with student loans. And instill some national pride that has basically faded away.

Quote:

Enacted on September 16, 1940, the Selective Training and Service Act of 1940 established the nation's first peacetime draft. Encoded within the Act were provisions governing who would register, who would be called to serve, and who would be exempted from service. There were four broad classes:

Class I: Available for Military Service.

Class II: Deferred Because of Occupation.

Class III: Deferred Because of Dependency.

Class IV: Unacceptable for Any Military Service.

Within the classes are categories of service eligibility/exemption. The ones relevant to your question are:

Class II-A: Deferred in support of national health, safety, or interest.

Class II-A (F): Previously rejected for military service.

Class II-B: Deferred in war production.

Class II-C: Deferred in agriculture.

Class III-A: Deferred for dependency reasons.

Class III-B: Deferred both by reason of dependency and occupation essential to the war effort.

Class III-C: Deferred both by reason of dependency and agricultural occupation.

Class III-D: Deferred by reason of extreme hardship and privation to wife, child, or parent.

Class IV-A: Deferred by reason of age.

Class IV-B: Public official deferred by law.

Class IV-C: Enemy alien unacceptable to armed forces and certain neutral aliens.

Class IV- D: Minister of religion or divinity student.

Class IV-E: Conscientious objectors were covered in this category. Some were deemed eligible for civilian service,

others were exempted from any sort of service.

Class IV-F: Rejected for military service for physical, mental or moral reasons.

You were obviously mocking someone that doesn't want their kids fighting a war for our worthless government that has proven to have no interest in winning wars.

I'm looking for clarification from someone I suspect does not respect the worlds largest nuclear arsenal and doesn't consider it a threat despite it being controlled by a psychopath

It's a current fad

Millions of Americans did this during WWII, Korea, Vietnam, and the GWOT. Fight political battles here to make sure our combat involvement in war is justified, but when it comes to war fighting, it's our duty to nation and each other to show up. I signed up on my 18th birthday like most of my peers. Fight for your nation, politically first, if what it does with the military concerns you. Quit claiming you will take your ball and go home….

No mouth, I'm not fighting for this, nor will my descendants if I can help it.

You go ahead and send your children if you want:
