At this point - is there even any real advantage to being a US citizen, especially in the US?

I honestly can't think of a single item.

You get to pay taxes and keep auto insurance.
And rent property from the government

Elections are when people find out what politicians stand for, and politicians find out what people will fall for.

Who cannot vote?
  • Non-citizens, including permanent legal residents, cannot vote in federal, state, and most local elections.

But if you can't ask someone's residency status when they register to vote, then

I don't understand this one. Could have sworn their citizenship confirmation was already upheld by the Supreme Court.

And you can bet Elias and his merry band of commie lawyers are running around with this ruling as precedent if not.

Same. Is there an article about this so we can actually read the judgment details?

Here is the issue:

It IS illegal for non-citizens to vote in federal elections

But Democrats are declaring that asking someone to prove they are a citizen in order to register to vote is illegal

Therefore, if asking someone to provide proof of citizenship is illegal, then being a citizen is not actually a requirement to vote

Are they saying you do not have to be a citizen to vote in federal elections or that you cannot require "proof" of citizenship to vote?

It's the latter. If I read the laws correctly, it's the responsibility of the county recorder to prove that someone isn't eligible to vote. It's not the responsibility of the person registering to vote to prove that they are a US citizen.

If a person cannot offer proof that they are a citizen, is that not proof that they are not a citizen?
But that's the issue. It's not a requirement to show proof that you are a citizen to register to vote as the law currently stands. Here's the Texas form: https://vrapp.sos.state.tx.us/index.asp You're not required to upload anything that says you are a citizen. They do ask for your driver's license or state ID number, or the last four digits of your social security number to help verify the information you've provided. The question of if there should be some way to verify if you're a US citizen is a different question.

I live in Maricopa County and I had to show my birth certificate to get my DL and voter registration.

Cochise County is beautiful. Need to get back down there.

Literally. This country has to get H.R.2 passed and Trumps deportation orders need followed through.

Only way to reverse the tide

This was the Supreme Court case.

On June 17, 2013, the Supreme Court ruled against Arizona in a 72 decision, which struck down the state law. Justice Scalia wrote the majority opinion, confirming the Ninth Circuit's rulings and holding that the state requirements relating to voter registrations were pre-empted by the federal NVRA law,[1] which mandates states to "accept and use" the Federal Form. Justices Clarence Thomas and Samuel Alito dissented. However, the Court also suggested ways for Arizona to overcome the hurdle.
