Not to defend MTG, but I strongly disagree. Nothing is dumber than thinking islands float on top of water, which is obviously what Johnson believes if it can flip.
And I am going to strongly disagree as well.
Tens of thousands of earthquakes occur all over the planet, every year. MTG is explicitly saying these are all warnings from God. She did not single out a specific one, so she must believe they are all a warning.
And not just natural movements of the earth.
Eclipses are known events that can be predicted with almost 100% accuracy, centuries in advance, as someone else pointed out. Annular and full eclipses occur regularly at some point on the earth all the time. Why is this one a warning from God and others are not?
10 seconds on wikipedia or any recent news article could have provided her with an iota of a clue. Assigning divine providence to these events is stupid. She uttered an utter stupidity to serve as red meat for idiot religio-conservatives to clap their hands like trained seals as if she was making a valid point.
She was not.
Why is it so hard to admit her comment and the point she was trying to make was as dumb a thing that anyone could possibly utter. Including islands tipping over.
It shows she cannot be bothered to educate herself before shooting off her mouth
and it shows that the representatives from Georgia, whether they are Democrat ()Johnson) or Republican (MTG) are a bunch of uneducated idiots.
And I will respectfully disagree with you. I believe there is a God, who created every quark and every constant in existence. I believe in a God whose will holds this all together. He knows every feather on every sparrow, caused them and knows their future. I believe this God created this earth, its tectonic plates, its subduction zones and its earthquakes. I don't pretend to know why he has created this masterpiece in the manner He did, and why He takes some lives and spares others, but random chance and references to purely naturalistic coincidences don't do it for me.
I guess that makes me a idiot religio-conservative, but at least I'm smart enough not to lump everyone I disagree with into reductionist simplistic labels. SMH
