Had my doctor cracking up last time when I was in, because right when he was done, I took out a little note from my pocket and asked him about two random drugs I had written down. He gave me a "WTF?" look, and I said "The commercial said I was supposed to ask my doctor about these drugs."
Every doctor I know, especially the GPs, hate the commercials. My good friend that is a GP told me over half his patients coming in for physicals and other routine exams are asking to get one or more drugs they have seen on TV. He especially loved the one that asked for Keytruda even though the woman didn't have and had never had cancer. She thought it would be a way to prevent it.
The drugs really get pushed when they get close to patent expiration. They are trying to protect their cash cows from generic competition. Once the generics are out for a few years, they tend to stop advertising.
