No different than black people calling each other the N word, white guys joking around calling each other cracker, mexicans calling one another the W word, etc. You thinking this is unusual is strange to me.

Regarding Mexicans, they will call each other names but it is often a spanish term and has nothing to do with the dampness of the upper posterior surfaces.
Gays calling others nicknames for cigarettes and Blacks using the "n" word are somewhat unique in their social pervasiveness.
Quite a bit, actually.
And the Mexicans I work with call each other wets all the time when they are joking
