Gaetz is doing what he said. McCarthy did not follow what he said he would do if elected Speaker.
And Gaetz set it up by killing a bill which had almost everything he wanted.

This is nothing but Gaetz being a little ***** because he wants to blow up the House rather than actually trying to pass useful legislation.
This might be a fight worth having if there were anything substantial to it. Gaetz and his allies are arguing that McCarthy isn't fighting for real debt and deficit reductions,

but the first CR that McCarthy offered cut discretionary spending by 8%, and would have given Republicans some leverage in the Senate.

Gaetz et al shot that down, but even more, they're refusing to discuss the true drivers of debt and deficits entitlement spending.

The populists don't want to bring up Medicare or Social Security reforms, mainly for electoral reasons.

It's hard to take them seriously on discretionary spending as a consequence, and especially difficult to take their anger over a CR seriously when that was also driven by electoral concerns.

No, they are holding McCarthy accountable to the agreement they made to give him the votes to get the Speakership. Kinda hard to have conservative initiatives if you don't get them to the floor. Thus, Gaetz was forced to move against him. This is what it will take to get conservatism into our legislation. Balls and commitment.

Would you allow DeSantis to passively let it slide?

It's not a bad call for the Gaetz brand.

The people he's courting support it, as shown in this thread. The why practically doesn't matter, just that he's sticking it to the "man", so to speak.

If McCarthy is out, who's the most likely replacement? Best case? Jim Jordan?

Regarding everything that McCarthy agreed to with Gaetz and Co.: Has McCarthy done everything he agreed to up until Saturday? Has he dotted his i's and crossed his T's since January in that department?

If not, why do you think Gaetz all of a sudden began throwing his fit and using this as his hill to die on when it comes to his "accountability"?

The dems will absolutely vote as a block. The R's will not. The R's better be very very careful here. Ignorance gone to seed.

No. The dems love the current speaker. I mean, he gives them everything they want and he gladly gives it to them with exactly 0.0000000000 in return.

Hell, he's better for them than Nancy.

Hyperbole is always effective when you have no argument. Did the Friday bill that Gaetz tanked give the dems "everything they wanted?"

I paid into the system for SS and Medicare.

Want to cut? Free healthcare for illegals. Eliminate food stamps. Stop starting wars. Defund PP. Eliminate alaphabet agencies. Subsidies to "environmental" BS causes.

Want to cut Medicare? let them negotiate what Medicare pays for prescription drugs.

Tons to cut without cutting services that people actually paid for.

Simple. Because the conditions that Gaetz is holding against McCarthy would've allowed this budget process to be reconciled in blocks instead of one giant vote, thus avoiding a shutdown and possibly leading to cuts in less critical parts of government. This is the most conservative thing to happen in this administration and you and your "conservative " friends have done nothing but preach for its demise. You DeSantites are all talk.

He's throwing a fit because he's tired of the talk and no action. He's also setting an example to hold politicians to their commitments.

So there was no accountability to be held at any point earlier in the year? You really think Gaetz walked off the floor Saturday night and said "ahhh…you finally broke a rule that we gave you….now you have to be held accountable?"

You could not be further from point.

We want the border enforced.
McCarthy is not doing this for us.
Trump damn sure took action on the border.

Why are we blank checking Ukraine and a proxy war against Russia?

McCarthy is green lighting the payments.
He could have shut it down and make the country have an actually debate.

MSM doesn't control the narratives anymore.

I was for my positions long before MAGA became a slogan.

Federal govt is too big and now it is weaponized with the justice depts in certain districts and the alphabet agencies are in lock step.

Feel pity for all these fools that believe Trump and mean tweets are why elections were hijacked

The problem is Gaetz's crew torpodeoed the Friday's bill with a 30% cut in funding, border enforcement funds, AND no Ukrainian money.

RD: "Our voters want to see results. We're sick of the talk. A lot of these DC Republicans have promised all these things over the years and then when it comes time, they don't deliver."

"The most recent budget bill they passed after spending 9 months complaining about the open border, inflation, weaponization of federal agencies, all of that is continuing with no course correction at all."

"We need a whole different approach. I will be able to bring that approach as president. Unfortunately, it looks like they'll continue doing the same old stuff that hasn't worked."

A****ingmen.

GOP is great at sending angry tweets, sternly worded letters and holding hearings but just don't expect any meaningful action or accountability.

You can't call yourself a principled conservative and support McCarthy. That's the disconnect. They will all change their tune now that DeSantis explained it to them.
